I can’t deny that I truly enjoy when a game has a surprising collaboration. Ad placement typically doesn’t phase me unless it’s super egregious, but I love a good crossover. Whether it’s something like a game having characters from other games brought into it or simply an unexpected collaboration like when Xbox had a promotion with OPI nail polish, it’s always fun to see what brands are working to bring their audiences together. Some of the most surprising crossovers have been from F2P games like Fortnite, Brawlhalla, or the topic of this article, Smite.

The third-person MOBA has had its share of crossover content over the last few years. Although the game of battling gods has always had a whacky sense of humor with some of its skins, it is something else entirely when some skins turn those gods into the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, characters from Stranger Things, or the eponymous Rambo. One that has likely turned everyone’s head is the collaboration between Smite and heavy metal band Slipknot.

This crossover event brings a variety of items with it. Cosmetics such as a loading screen and a jump stamp can be obtained from a special chest. Skins will be in the chest as well, but players can unlock them with a direct purchase if they’d like. All nine current members are represented in-game as skins for one of three gods. Corey Taylor, Sid Wilson, and Craig Jones are skins for Poseidon. Alessandro Venturella, Jim Root, and Mick Thomson are skins for Chaac. Jay Weinberg, Michael Pfaff, and clown meanwhile are skins for Raijin.

Players will be able to begin unlocking their favorite Slipknot members on May 17th when the event begins. Soon after they’ll also be able to look forward to the Blast from the Past Battle Pass, the SMITE Night adventure, and new Heavenly Light skins.

Samuel Moreno

Samuel (he/him) has been obsessed with video games since he was a kid watching bumbling zombies shuffle down a hallway in Resident Evil 20+ years ago (it's debatable if he should have seen a mature-rated game at that age but he's personally okay with it). His hobby of writing and talking people's ears off about video games has always felt like a perfect match. Feel free to let him talk your ear off on Twitter!: https://twitter.com/xxsammorenoxx
