It’s crazy to think that last December, Motion Twin had announced the 22nd update and second major expansion to Dead Cells. Even though in 2018, the game had left early access after only a year, it is still going strong years later thanks to the support from its developers. There aren’t any signs of that changing, and now nearly one year after those announcements, one of the most interesting updates to the game has gone live with the “Everyone is Here” update.

If the Super Smash Bros Ultimate-inspired reference isn’t enough to give it away, this latest update is a sizeable crossover update with characters from other games. After a few weeks of teasing on Motion Twin’s Twitter page, it was revealed that the update is a crossover tribute with Blasphemous, Curse of The Dead Gods, Guacamelee!, Hollow Knight, Hyper Light Drifter, and Skul: The Hero Slayer.

Skins and weapons/skills from every single protagonist from the games above are available to be equipped. In most cases, the skins do turn your character into the respective character from said game. The exception to this is The Knight from Hollow Knight, which only provides a general outfit.

What is most fun about this update is that each weapon/skill does a great job at representing the character and stands out among other skills and weapons in Dead Cells. For example, the only pistol and the only blaster in the game can be used with the weapons from Curse of the Dead Gods and Hyper Light Drifter, respectively. On the other hand, the Face Flask weapon from Blasphemous inflicts a small amount of self-damage to turn part of your missing health into recovery.

New rooms have been added to the Prisoner’s Quarters, which hold an associated weapon within. Completing specific challenges will unlock the associated skins meanwhile. The update technically went live last week, but only for PC players, though it went live for consoles earlier this week on November 29th.

The official patch notes that go in-depth into the balancing and bug fixes (although are cryptic on the crossover content) can be read here. If you’d like to have a straightforward description of the various character weapons and skills, you can read them on this Steam announcement post.

Samuel (he/him) has been obsessed with video games since he was a kid watching bumbling zombies shuffle down a hallway in Resident Evil 20+ years ago (it's debatable if he should have seen a mature-rated game at that age but he's personally okay with it). His hobby of writing and talking people's ears off about video games has always felt like a perfect match. Feel free to let him talk your ear off on Twitter!: https://twitter.com/xxsammorenoxx
