Collaborations aren’t anything new. There are plenty when it comes to video games, whether that’s a LEGO set of your favorite Overwatch hero or unlocking an exclusive code on the underside of a Mountain Dew bottle cap. It’s also especially common within the makeup industry as so many brands have slapped their logo and colors onto makeup palettes (Colourpop thrives on collabs). I’m not at all surprised to see a fun nail polish brand like OPI collaborate with a video game brand. However, it is a welcome surprise to see them work with Xbox who many of us probably still subconsciously relate with Doritos.

Set to be available at ULTA retailers now and then globally at other retailers at the beginning of February, the OPI x Xbox collection includes 12 different hues to form a palette inspired by the Xbox brand and general gaming influences. Additionally, these different hues will be offered with many of OPI’s formulas, including GelColor, Infinite Shine, Nail Lacquer, and some in Powder Perfection. Needless to say, there are plenty of options depending on what hue you’re interested in purchasing.

It is a pretty colorful set that gives further leeway towards finding something perfect for you or as a gift for someone. The names are also all wonderfully punny and imaginative, as a lot of nail polish colors can be. Some of my favorites would be “You Had Me at Halo” and “Pixel Dust”. OPI is also seemingly set to give away some customer Xbox wireless controllers in three matching hues over on their Instagram and TikTok. These colors include “Achievement Unlocked”, “Racing for Pinks”, and “Can’t CTRL Me”.

Of course, you can’t have a collaboration with Xbox without in-game content. Qualifying purchases (seemingly of $20) of these hues will allow players to unlock specific matching content in Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5. I haven’t had the chance yet to get some racing done, but I have been spending some time here and there playing Halo Infinite since the multiplayer dropped. I’m confident I would never spend $20 for just a Halo skin, but if my partner wouldn’t mind the shades, how could I not buy some nail polish and dress my spartan up in a shimmering blue-purple suit of armor?

Samuel (he/him) has been obsessed with video games since he was a kid watching bumbling zombies shuffle down a hallway in Resident Evil 20+ years ago (it's debatable if he should have seen a mature-rated game at that age but he's personally okay with it). His hobby of writing and talking people's ears off about video games has always felt like a perfect match. Feel free to let him talk your ear off on Twitter!: https://twitter.com/xxsammorenoxx
