Monday, we reported that the Lies of P demo ended on Tuesday. Tuesday, another MMO decided to throw itself on the pyre of WoW‘s foes that are bland and do very little to get outsiders invested. Wednesday, All-Star Battle R added a new character, and Skater XL is coming to the Switch later this year. Then on Thursday, because there is very little in the way of news post-Gamescom/pre-Starfield release, Banishers: Ghost of New Eden got a gameplay trailer with a shortbread tin for a character.
Moving on to this week’s only game, of course, it is a repeat of a 2004 Japanese indie title, which means the internet loves it and I have no interest. This week we have Cave Story+, A puzzle platformer with a hint of action. It should be no surprise the influences are Metroid and Castlevania, matched with refined polish which was praised upon its release. Obviously, Studio Pixel’s Dōkutsu Monogatari (the original title in romanized Japanese) is beloved. Somehow for me, I’ve found trouble getting interested in the first place given I’m busier than an Amazon warehouse worker.
All this week, you can pick up Cave Story+ on the Epic Games Store until Thursday, September 7th. Next week we’ll have another offering that will have me clutching for things to say about a game I’ll have no time to play, Spelldrifter. A turn-based tactics RPG from 2022 that you’ve never heard of because a total of 13 people have reviewed it, and they are all on Steam. Card-based and puzzle-like in sections, I’m honestly at a loss for something nice to say from what little I’ve been able to see.
