Skater XL Coming to Nintendo Switch in December

Nostalgia from the heyday of Tony Hawk Pro Skater continues to drive development for new skateboarding games. Some are more successful than others, but many enjoyed the experience of Skater XL. First released on Sony and Microsoft consoles, the game will now head to the Nintendo Switch this December. Here’s what we know about the port coming later this year.

Easy Day Studios is claiming multiple years of development have gone into the Switch port, which should bode well for performance. The game is planned to hit 60 FPS in both handheld and docked modes. It’s also going to feature multiplayer modes like free skate to allow you to play with others. It’s not clear, however, if that multiplayer functionality will allow you to play across platforms or not.

One of the major features of Skater XL is the community creation tools. From making fake brands to user-designed maps and gear, all of the content will be accessible on the Switch. The Discord for the game’s community boasts over 100,000 members, and that will likely grow with a brand new influx of players on the Nintendo Switch. Modding, 60 FPS, and multiplayer functionality are all features that Switch ports often remove for console compatibility, so it’s nice that all three will be featured in the Switch version of Skater XL.

Players eager to drop in with this authentic skateboard simulator will get a chance to play Skater XL on the Nintendo Switch on December 5th. Skater XL will be available for Nintendo Switch on December 5 for $39.99 in the Nintendo eShop. Retail box versions of Skater XL will be available at brick-and-mortar retailers this holiday. Skater XL is also available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
