Monday, Alexx said he wants to go to the moon in 2023, and Disney did an E3. Tuesday, Sunday Gold got delayed a month because Liz copped it last week, Gundam Evolution finally got a release date, and 343 Industry’s founder left the company. Wednesday, Dying Light 2‘s second free chapter was released, and Fall Guys season 2 was released yesterday. Thursday, that Stranger Things guy will star in Sony’s Gran Turismo film, and Tekken 8 got revealed this week.

Moving on to this week’s free games on the Epic Games Store and we’ll start with space… I hear it is the final frontier. The Captain is a Chris Pike ’em-up with a pixel-art style and a whole lot of motifs to Star Trek but lacks that clinching final piece to the puzzle. The Captain is a point-and-click adventure in which you’ll endeavor to find your way back home like Janeway, but hopefully without all the stupid lizard business. Defined around moral choice and your ability to solve puzzles, the attempt to bring that Star Trek world to such a game is admirable, but in this case, not enough for The Captain to become an admiral.

Changing course and moving to Iceland, Spirit of the North is a third-person adventure about a fox with magic powers running around Kratos‘ backyard and racking in the magic bins. Pretty, colorful, and lacking in anything exciting to talk about, I think you can tell why I’m waffling on. Often when Spirit of the North is spoken about by players, there are notes of clunky and uncomfortable controls ruining an otherwise wonderful and relaxing experience, full of puzzles and general adventure.

All this week you can pick up The Captain and Spirit of the North on the Epic Games Store until the morning of the 22nd of September. Moving on to next week and it is a repeat mixed with something I’ve been mixing up in my head with another gloomy game. Once again, you’ll have the chance to pick up Studio Wildcard’s ARK: Survival Evolved, the game of “what was that?” before your nipples become T-rex food. The second is the worst board game I’ve ever tried to play, as it takes 97 hours to set up. Yes, Gloomhaven, which for the last few days I’ve been thinking was the name of another attempt at a “boomer shooter” on Steam for some reason.
