So, it turns out that the word “Indefinitely” in terms of delays was used prematurely for MultiVersus’ first season. A little over a week ago, Player First Games announced a delay for the game’s first multiplayer season, as well as some delays to some upcoming content. Now, we have more information on the actual releases of some of these things.

MultiVersus’ first season starts today and will contain a brand-new Battle Pass of content that can be unlocked. However, Player First Games mentioned that not everything that is coming will be available today, stating: “Quick Note: Everything we are bringing to you in Season 1 will not drop on the same day. New modes and content will be spread through the life of the Season. We’ll continue to share dates on all the fun things to come!

They also confirmed that Morty will be playable on August 23rd, though there is no confirmed date for Rick as of yet. Season 1 will also (at some point) receive a “classic arcade mode” which will allow you to play in PvE battles against foes. This arcade mode and ranked multiplayer will be coming sometime after today, though there isn’t a confirmation of when just yet.

Considering the delay was supposedly meant to give the dev team more time for polish and gameplay fixes, I’m a little confused by this quick turnaround. Regardless, it seems like fans of MultiVersus will have some new content to mess around with this week. I’m excited to get back into it, though I wonder if the arcade mode will allow you to progress through the battle pass since some folks aren’t into multiplayer.

I’m also curious as to how they’ll monetize and roll out content moving forward. Will the battle passes be worth it? Or would it be worth more to save to pick up characters? Can you play entirely free-to-play and still enjoy yourself? Only time will tell.
