When I wrote my preview of Multiversus’ Open Beta, I mentioned that we were currently in the midst of what they called a “Mini Battle Pass.” It isn’t a full pass and only contains a few unlockables and one skin for Shaggy. It was only meant to tide people over with a little bit of content until tomorrow, August 9th, at the start of Season 1. Last week, Warner Bros. and the MultiVersus development team made a surprising announcement that changes things up a bit.

Player First Games, the developers of MultiVersus, announced that they are delaying the first official Season of MultiVersus content “indefinitely.” Additionally, they have stated that Morty (of Rick and Morty) will have his release delayed as well since he was meant to become available on August 9th when the first season began.

Rick (also from Rick and Morty) was meant to come later in Season 1 as well, though the release date hadn’t been confirmed. Now, according to Player First Games via the official MultiVersus Twitter account, these delays seem to be pushing that time frame back further. There wasn’t a particular reason given as to why this content is being delayed either.

However, the statement reads as follows: “We want to let everyone know that we are delaying the start of Season 1 & the release of Morty to a later date. We know this might be disappointing for some and want to assure our Community that we are dedicated to delivering new and exciting content that delights players. We’ll let you know the timing as soon as we can. We appreciate your patience & enthusiasm and look forward to unveiling Season 1 very soon!

Now, depending on the reasoning behind this delay, we could see an update on this story as soon as Gamescom. Since Gamescom is in late August, this would be the perfect time frame to give them a chance to re-evaluate the time frame they have.

It is a little disheartening for current players considering the game isn’t overflowing with content right now. However, if they are fixing issues then it could be beneficial in the long run. Either way, as we know more, I will try to continue to provide updates on the situation as we hear about them.
