If you’ve reserved a Steam Deck anytime in the past few months and are waiting for that fateful email that will allow you to complete your purchase, it certainly appears as though Valve has some good news for you. In a recent post on the Steam Deck’s page on the Steam Community forums, Valve triumphantly proclaimed that they’re “going to be able to fulfill demand sooner than we had estimated for everyone in the reservation queue.”

Valve went on to explain that they’ll be able to do this thanks to the combination of the gradual easing of relevant supply chain issues and the fact that they’ve been steadily ramping up Steam Deck production over the last few months. According to Valve, everyone whose previously existing Steam Deck reservation window once displayed as “Q3 2022 or later” will now be able to complete their purchases and get their devices in hand by the end of this year.

Many customers who were in the ‘Q4 or later’ window have been bumped up to the ‘Q3 (July-September) window,” Valve stated. “[E]veryone else is now solidly in the ‘Q4 (October-December)’ window. As of this moment, new reservations will be in the Q4 bucket, but if these queues fill up it will flip over into the following quarter.” They also provided a link that will allow you to see the updated status of your place in the reservation queue provided you visit that site while logged into Steam.

I’m curious as to what you make of this news, dear reader. Personally, I think it’s great that Valve can fulfill the (probably overwhelming) demand for Steam Decks this far ahead of schedule. I hope this trend continues, especially when the time eventually comes for me to reserve my own Steam Deck. On the same token, I also hope Valve continues to listen as intently as they have been to community feedback about the device, its performance, and any new features that can be patched in. He greatly enjoys many different varieties of games, particularly several RPGs and turn-based strategy titles (especially Sid Meier's Civilization with a healthy amount of mods). When he's not helping to build or plan computers for friends, he can usually be found gaming on his personal machine or listening to an audiobook to unwind.
