Much to the surprise of most that had forgotten about it and even to those who had been eagerly awaiting more news, a new trailer has been released for The House of the Dead: Remake. The game was originally announced during Nintendo’s Indie World Showcase nearly a year ago last April, but I wouldn’t have blamed you if you’d forgotten as it was shown for just 10 seconds during a montage. A minute-long video was uploaded on publisher Forever Entertainment’s Youtube channel, but there’s been radio silence ever since.

This new trailer runs as long as the previous one did and feels a lot like a launch trailer. It shows off many of the varied locations of the Curien Mansion and gives a decent look at how much more stylized the game is with its colored lighting. It also reveals a pre-order date for March 31st as well as the release date which will be in a month on April 7th.

As interesting as it looks, many were hoping it would go over more of what the game has to offer. Most of what has been officially revealed isn’t on the store page but on this new trailer’s youtube page description, as they mention a photo mode, an armory, and “hordes of the undead monstrosities in a new game mode.”

Fans have also been hungry to know what the controls will be like. It seems natural to assume that the Joy-Cons can be used to aim, but this hasn’t been officially confirmed. All that’s been said is that it will stay, “true to the original gameplay” and use modern controls. Even if it’s a given, it would make sense to market with this and the decision not to is leading to some doubts.

Be that as it may, I am excited about this! I spent quite a few quarters playing the original and its sequel at my local arcade. Developer MegaPixel Studio previously worked on the Panzer Dragoon: Remake, and although it did launch with some technical issues, the game was updated and fixed in patches. I am cautiously optimistic and I can’t help but look forward to seeing how the game is.

Samuel (he/him) has been obsessed with video games since he was a kid watching bumbling zombies shuffle down a hallway in Resident Evil 20+ years ago (it's debatable if he should have seen a mature-rated game at that age but he's personally okay with it). His hobby of writing and talking people's ears off about video games has always felt like a perfect match. Feel free to let him talk your ear off on Twitter!: https://twitter.com/xxsammorenoxx
