Maybe it is because I am still exploring The Lands Between with Stabarella, but I think this was well-deserved. Elden Ring is (in my view) one of the best, not only for the world but everything it brings to the table. Its offerings range from lore deeper than the hole a Russian Oligarch is digging himself, to the near-endless discovery of the world and what it has to offer. I loved it and I think that was more than evident in my review of it last week.

Well, according to gamesindustry.biz, I’m not the only one. The UK release of the latest From Software title following both Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has increased by 26% in sales from the previous game. Of course, since the release of Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro, the digital sales market has increased exponentially thanks to the still ongoing pandemic. Though the specifics of the digital sales won’t release until later in the week.

With the release of Elden Ring, it unsurprisingly shot to the number 1 spot in UK sales, toppling the Sony exclusive Horizon: Forbidden West. Which dropped 79% of sales week-on-week, sending the PS4 and PS5 exclusive back to the number 2 spot. Of course, all of this comes as the PS5 is still in high demand with very few consoles to fill that demand for the time being. This seems to be something that will continue for the foreseeable future as the shortage of semiconductors continues to hamper console sales worldwide.

Nevertheless, boxed sales of Elden Ring made up for 63% of the PS5 market, 17% of the Xbox family market, 17% of PS4 sales, and only 3% of PC sales. Though, it is highly important to note that PC sales are determinant of more than just one factor, with a large number of modern PCs not having a disk drive at all. Similarly, the Xbox family of consoles are heavily dependent on digital sales rather than boxed releases, which may make up for the wider scope but smaller market share overall.

On the week ending on the 26th of February, Elden Ring tops the GfK chart as the new entry, Horizon: Forbidden West drops to second pushing Pokémon Legends: Arceus down to third. Following recent news on the DLC for Mario Kart 8: Deluxe it sits fourth, with a collection of not so recent releases around it including FIFA 22Call of Duty: VanguardAnimal Crossing: New HorizonsMinecraft for the Switch, and Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition, all making up the majority of the other spots. Interestingly, Dying Light 2: Stay Human less than a month on from release fell from third the week prior to only seventh last week.
