Monday, a 2D Metroidvania/Souls-like got an accessibility update. Tuesday, Prime Gaming updated to offer some good games and one Quantic Dream game, Dorfromantik might get an update but not for its ridiculous name, January’s PlayStation Plus games were revealed, and Steam set a record while everyone was home, again. Wednesday, Master Chef could get his nails done, Walking-Simulator the game will get the “Kojima made more crap” edition on PC, and the first lot of January Game Pass additions were revealed. Thursday, Capcom is teasing more Resident Evil after Village and that fan-film (Return to Raccoon City), and Nobody Saves the World is interesting and has a release date finally.
Different year, same old nonsense on the Epic Games Store, now there was a surprise. Over the break that most of us had taken, there were quite a few interesting additions, including Loop Hero, Salt and Sanctuary, Prey, and Moving Out, alongside repeats like Control and Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden. All of which was capped off with the latest Tomb Raider trilogy. So, what is available this week? A hack and slash Rogue-like/lite RPG from last year that reviewed well with critics but was panned a little bit by consumers, especially those on consoles. Gods Will Fall isn’t a remarkably interesting game, either on paper or visually if I am honest.
Kind of Gauntlet-esque in terms of your dungeon crawling, you are setting out to kill the gods of this very simple world with giant spider-creatures and other horrors. Visually similar to The Falconeer, everything has detail but it is limited and comes across with a sense of feeling like plastic. What I can’t fathom about Gods Will Fall is simply what I am supposed to cling to and enjoy about it, or what was meant to make me buy it in the first place. The world, the ideas, the mechanics, and the overall aesthetic aren’t as compelling as it wants to believe it is. If you love Rogue-likes/lites though, it might tide you over for a bit.
All this week, you can pick up Gods Will Fall on the Epic Games Store until the morning of the 13th of January. Next week, I’ll be talking politics, and more specifically, space politics the game. Once more, Galactic Civilizations III will be available on the Epic Games Store for free, making its second (I think) appearance as a free game for the storefront. So next week I’ll at least have something to talk about that is enjoyable.
