Maybe I am looking at this as quite a quick turnaround for what has been said thus far, but Grid Legends, the latest game in the reboot within the spin-off of the TOCA series, was only announced back in July. It is suggested to be a bit larger, a bit more story-focused, and as I said at the time of the announcement, generally going for a skin-deep story of the underdog fighting to prove themselves. You wouldn’t think that the first quarter of 2022 would be the release window. However, according to a press release sent out by EA & Codemasters on Friday, that’s exactly the thoughts.

Coming to PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series S/S, as well as PC (On Steam and Origin), you’ll be able to play the 250 events with over 100 vehicles on February 25th, 2022. The press release goes on to state  “GRID Legends features more gameplay choices than any previous GRID title… Including the return of community-requested Drift mode and fan favorite, Elimination which puts all the pressure on the back-markers, with drivers dropping out periodically until only one remains.” Alongside this return will be the new “Race Creator” mode, which seems to work a bit like a mash-up between elements like personalized races, crossing over classes, being able to alter time, date, and weather, coupled with some odd additions such as “ramps and boost gates.”

This comes alongside the story featuring actor Ncuti Gatwa, with Codemasters employing live-action testimonials and cutscenes to enhance the gameplay and story. Meanwhile, the press release also mentions improvements to multiplayer systems, including cross-platform gameplay and streamlined menus to make getting into races quicker with friends. Game director, Chris Smith, says, “With the release date set, the studio is putting the final polish to our deepest GRID game ever.” He also reaffirmed all the statements made throughout the press release, including “our new hop-in gameplay enables friends to connect in seconds and spend more time on the track and less time in lobbies.”

Finally, the press release mentions that those who pre-order either edition of GRID Legends will receive the Seneca & Ravenwest Double Pack. With this DLC, which you’ll undoubtedly be able to purchase after release too, you’ll be able to unlock the Aston Martin Vantage GT4, Porsche 962C, the Ginetta G55 GT4, and Koenigsegg Jesko alongside Seneca and Ravenwest icons, liveries, and banners to dress up like one of the team within the game. Assuredly, that will entice some already, but hold off on your pre-order until you know a little bit more about it.
