I’ve said before that wrestling is something I love, and I don’t think it would surprise anyone to know that my love started with the games. I’ve also gone on record as saying something that the games have been missing for years now is the GM Mode of 2006-2008. Finally, all those prayers to satan worked out! Apparently, we’re getting the management aspect of wrestling back with the release of WWE 2K22 following some details revealed yesterday.

With the tagline “It hits different,” I’ve got a feeling the development team behind WWE 2K22 didn’t expect to be hit with releases so soon after the last one. Yes, while we got a sneak peek into what to expect this coming March, WWE did another round of “budget cuts” despite reporting high profits earlier last month. That’s enough about horrible things, here is hoping the ten features showcased are actually given the backing they need from 2K Sports, unlike 2K20 was. Most notably, my love, my life, MyGM mode.

Alongside this, there are new modes called MyFaction and MyRise, which we’ve not been given much info on. They seem to be two mini story-driven modes that allow you to navigate the world of WWE. This year’s cover star, Rey Mysterio is starring in the 2K Showcase mode for those looking for longer story-driven content, as well as Universe Mode.

The Creation Suite will return with a face lift, and generally, the whole game has had a face lift. Personally, I think it is lacking in decent color grading but I am giving it some leeway given we’re 4 months out from release. New controls have been revealed, and concerningly the gameplay engine has been redesigned. However, we’re promised an “immersive presentation.”

What concerns me the most is the people over at Visual Concepts being stretched to their limits once again, having such a steep hill to move in a little over 2-years. Already there is WWE’s ever-changing landscape as superstars are released bi-weekly now. On top of that we’re adding a rebuilt engine, graphical overhauls, and new modes?

More details are to come in January 2022, and one might assume that may include a full roster reveal alongside pre-orders. I know my job to some is to hype something up, but for the love of all that is Mick Foley, hold off on your digital pre-orders until you can confirm this one isn’t another 2K20It looks nice though.
