For a moment I thought I could make this bit short this week, I guess thoughts are but a wish we believe in. Monday I covered everything for Twitch Prime in May and Mike spoke about Missouri’s stupid decision to allow concerts immediately. Tuesday, Dari wrote about the tribute to the Team Fortress 2 voice actor, and Wednesday spoke about Apex Legends Season 5. Also on Wednesday, I covered that a skater was offered a spot in Skate 3 Mobile. Thursday, David spoke about RoboCop joining Mortal Kombat 11 and Dari spoke of LSD: Dream Emulator.

This week on the Epic Games Store is Death Coming, and oh how I wish it was a bit faster. Death Coming an isometric god game where you play as the reapers intern, a newly dead man or child, it is not very clear with the pixel art-style. You are tasked with killing everyone you can on a level, with the usual three-star, three-trophy, or letter merit system that’s common on phones and Metal Gear Solid games. I should say that’s where the game is aiming for, at least with the references and dull “puzzle” gameplay that results in another leaderboard that i won’t care about.

Death Coming seems like it was designed with iPads and other tablets in mind, then was ported on PC. As something to jab at while taking the world’s longest dump it works. However, with humor that’s painfully agonizing by the end of the second level, it is no longer fun to play. Early on you’re tasked with killing three major targets, none of which matter. You can complete levels without killing them, you just need to hit the predetermined number of deaths around them. If anything, that would be the most Final Destination thing about the game, which the game advertises itself being similar to. They should have gone with the method of “don’t kill X characters” to make the plot work.

Before I get to next week on Epic, there’s something else you can pick up for free if you’re so inclined. In fact, I’d prefer it, but I’m one of those mental cases who enjoy RTS games. Stardock is known for their RTS games such as Galactic CivilizationsSins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion, and Ashes of the Singularity. Currently, Ashes of the Singularity, and its standalone expansion Escalation that was later incorporated into the main game, is free on Humble right now. It is free until Sunday morning (10 AM PDT) or until stock runs out. You pick up this ground-based sci-fi RTS through Humble by connecting it to your Steam account and claiming it.

Think of it like Supreme Commander or Total Annihilation, two games I’ve spoken about when talking about Rusted Warfare before. If I was any good at RTS games, I’m sure I’d be able to say if it was better to the general community, but I think the fact that I hardly scrape past the normal difficulties with my teeth intact makes me unqualified for that answer. My general strategy is to turtle, building all the dreadnoughts before coming out to claim my win once I have a large enough armada.

Death Coming is currently free on the Epic Games Store all week. However, this week you will have to set up two-factor verification on your account to claim Death Coming, possibly as a way to promote good security on accounts from Epic’s part for three weeks. Conversely, it would be for what is set to come next week, “Mystery Game unlocking in…” something Epic is being tight-lipped on until next Thursday morning. The last time we had something with a bit of mystery around it for the free games on Epic was the entire Batman trilogy of Lego and Arkham games. I guess we’ll both find out what is coming next week.
