Monday, Primal Planet is a Metroidvania with a prehistoric twist. Tuesday, Pepper Grinder, which we’ve covered multiple times already, has finally gotten a March release date, as did ENDER MAGNOLIA, the sequel to ENDER LILIES. Meanwhile, Supermassive joined EA and Sony in the cascade of laying off staff, the latest video game trend as CEOs don’t take a pay cut. Wednesday, there was a Pokémon Presents, and nothing was announced, while Freedom Planet 2 (Sonic Heroes nil) got an April release date. Thursday, Remedy purchased the rights to Control, and Bethesda is trying to Skyrim the Fallout series by selling it again.
Moving on to the Epic Games Store and what is available right now, Aerial_Knight’s Never Yield. An auteur project from Neil “Aerial_Knight” Jones that certainly isn’t going to light fires under everyone but has been heavily updated since its 2021 release. Arriving in early 2022, “Da Update” includes more music, more levels, graphical updates, UI overhauls, leaderboards, and more. Heavy on QTEs, the difficulty truly comes from higher difficulties removing the bullet time slowdown. Stylish, colorful, and trying to be unique, there isn’t much to complain about… unless you dislike rhythm titles.
All this week, you can pick up Aerial_Knight’s Never Yield on the Epic Games Store until Thursday, the 7th of March. Moving on to the Epic Games Store for next week, and it is Astro Duel 2, a sequel to Rusty Moyher’s 2016 crunchy retro space shooter/party game. A bit more modern but still with that crunchy retro style about it, this sequel blends top-down style space dogfighting and platforming. However, most interestingly, Astro Duel 2 releases on March 7th, yes this coming Thursday.
