I have mentioned it before and I will mention it again. 2023 was a phenomenal year for video games! There are so many games that have blown our minds that it is hard to keep track of all of them. That is why I have put together this gift guide that is specifically for some of the exceptional games that came out for the Nintendo Switch in 2023. Let’s dive in and see what are the most interesting buys of this year!

Dave the Diver

A story-based video game that has a main story focused on the weird nature of this land with a lot of fleshed out and sometimes goofy secondary mechanics for you to enjoy as a cooldown from the main game” was how my friend described Dave the Diver to me when I asked. There is so much variety that this game will be difficult to put down with the amount of characters and situations that you run into. Pikmin 4

Pikmin 4 capped off a great year for the Pikmin series on the Nintendo Switch. With the earlier release of Pikmin 1 & 2, Pikmin 4 has brought the entire franchise to the Nintendo Switch in 2023. Continuing the normal trends of these games, it is all about strategy as you navigate the world that you are currently stuck in. This new entry was released with rave reviews from almost every outlet.

This led to Pikmin 4 receiving (during the time of writing) a Metacritic score of 87 and a user score of 9.0. If you haven’t picked up this quirky puzzle-solving game, then now is the perfect time to get going on a one-of-a-kind adventure! If you would like to hear a bit about the character creator in this game, check out the following article right here.

Super Mega Baseball 4

While many people are still clamoring for a Baseball game mode to be added to Nintendo Switch Sports, other games have to step into the market to scratch that Wii Sports itch we all have. The closest game that does this is Super Mega Baseball 4. It is a zany little take on the baseball video game formula that tries to be funny but doesn’t quite hit the point of Backyard Baseball. Regardless, it should be a good time for those looking for a relaxing baseball game. With up to 4 player support, this is a game that is perfect for any rainy day when you need a little excitement in your life.

Have a Nice Death

I remember being at PAX East 2022 when Have a Nice Death was announced by Gearbox. Since then it has been quite a joy to see the game go from Early Access on Steam to full release on pretty much all platforms. This game has you take control of Death who has to rein in his employees who have gone off the rails in this 2D action Rogue-like. Filled with quirky characters and dark humor that will keep you entertained between the action, this is one of the finest Rogue-like games that has come out in 2023.

Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed

For those who know me, I am a big fan of Asymmetrical Horror games. Ghostbusters Spirits Unleashed may not have the popularity that other Asymmetrical Horror games have, but it is quite an enjoyable game and one that I am glad to see was finally added to the Nintendo Switch. It certainly has some graphical limits compared to the PC version, but it is still a great time. There were a few rough areas with Spirits Unleashed when it came out on launch, but luckily the developers have been able to smooth out almost all of them. We have a full review of the game right here if you want more information.

That is all for this list. If you have any suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments below.
