Monday, AGDQ began and you can watch it online. Also, Genshin Impact updated to the excitement of no one that I want to talk to in person. Tuesday, the Dead Space pre-orders included the sequels, and Dungeons 4 (Dungeon Keeper 4.4) is having a closed beta test later this month. Wednesday, Naughty Dog set sights on trying to pull a trigger with its toe as the Elden Ring-size muzzle sits in its mouth, and this month’s Game Pass additions were revealed. Then Thursday, you can playtest yet another card-based Rogue-like/lite, because we clearly don’t have enough of them!
Moving on to this week’s free games on the Epic Games Store, we’ll start with the multiplayer social deduction game, First Class Trouble. Released back in November of 2021, the simulation of a Tim Curry and Christopher Lloyd-led film has received reasonably decent reviews on Steam and mixed reviews from those that know what they are talking about.
As I’ve made clear several times while writing these Epic Games Store articles, I find multiplayer titles as entertaining as I find Will Ferrell’s comedy. It is difficult to give any impression on something I’m inherently not intent on playing, ever.
Next up is the second multiplayer thing that I’m never going to touch but have to write about for at least a paragraph, Divine Knockout (DKO). Released on Steam last month and the Epic Games Store yesterday, the multiplayer 3rd-person PvP battler surprisingly isn’t a free-to-play title now on offer as Epic’s free game with cosmetic tripe.
Similar to the idea of Smite or other rather boring games you’ve forgotten about (Remember Spellbreak?), there is a very soft art style to target specific markets. My disinterest is evident, I think it is clear what I think of Divine Knockout (DKO).
Gamedec is the third and final game for this week. It is the answer to the question “what if Cyberpunk 2077 was isometric and competently made.” Based on stories by Polish writer Marcin Przybyłek, you play as a Game Detective with heavy themes of noir, cyberpunk, and transhumanism throughout. Purported to be the definitive edition of the 2021 point-and-click CRPG (looking to emulate tabletop RPGs), you will seek to solve crimes in the digital worlds of this digital version of 22nd-century Poland. It is interesting, colorful in places, and most importantly, risks letting the player feel negative effects.
You can pick up First Class Trouble, Divine Knockout (DKO), and Gamedec – Definitive Edition on the Epic Games Store now until the morning of the 19th of January. It is not often I ask for more work, but please for the love of all that is holy, I don’t want to just write about Epistory – Typing Chronicles, again. A typing tutor that tries to do the ever-annoying thing of gamifying a simple task, but not very well. I’m sure my happy and cheery mood that has been evident this week will continue with Fishing Cactus’ 2016 title.
