When this article goes live, Phenixx Gaming’s staff will be on its Winter Break, taking the weeks of Christmas and New Year to spend with our families. This got me to thinking about games that are great to play when you’re off of work or away from college, just needing to take a break and relax. Here are 5 games that are on Nintendo Switch right now that are great to play on Winter Break.

Monark –

Monark is the perfect RPG to play during the Winter holidays when you’re not spending time with family and friends, and just want to enjoy an interesting story. While this one isn’t warm and fuzzy at all, it has a narrative that really should interest fans of games like Persona or Shin Megami Tensei.

You play as a student who must explore both your academy and a mysterious “Otherworld” in order to understand the dangerous mist that has taken root on campus. Monark deals with psychological themes and showcases how different personality types can react or change in times of crisis. It is a fascinating experience, but one you might want to set aside some serious time for.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga –

This is an option for either solo players or players who wanna have some lighthearted fun with friends, younger siblings, or children. I love the Lego games and having the entire Skywalker Saga (along with open world areas) at my fingertips never stops being an absolute blast. With over 200 characters to play as and unlock, along with massive amounts of collectibles, this would keep you busy for an entire winter break by itself.

Whether you’re playing alone, or with friends, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is an absolute treat to play on Switch. Plus, unlike Monark, this one is suitable for all ages, so you won’t have to turn the game off or pause when the younglings start swarming and wanting to play.

Cult of the Lamb –

This is a more chill option for people who like Roguelikes and Management sims, but don’t really want anything that would warrant hundreds of hours of play. Cult of the Lamb is an absolute blast, mixing cult management with fun action roguelike gameplay. With the variety of difficulty options on show here, you can easily tailor it to suit your needs, whether you want a challenge or just something chill before bed. Just remember to make sure you clean up after your cult members, they like to poop in weird places.

Mario Party Superstars –

Boasting mini-games and boards from the entire history of the Mario Party franchise, Mario Party Superstars is a great option for family play. What makes it beat Super Mario Party out of the running on this list, is the fact that there are no motion controls involved. This means that your grandma can play because the controls are simple, and she won’t throw her shoulder out or throw a Joy-Con at your TV. Seriously, give Mario Party Superstars a try. If your family likes this sort of thing, they’ll thank you.

Bayonetta 2 –

It wouldn’t be the Holiday season without my self-indulgent trumpeting about Bayonetta 2. Before you say anything else, Bayonetta 2 is absolutely a Christmas game, and I won’t hear anything otherwise. When you see Rodin in a Santa suit, and then spend 10 hours beating up angels and demons as the baddest witch in town, you’ll thank me. Also, this is a perfect time to get caught up in case you wind up getting Bayonetta 3 as a Christmas present, just saying.

There you have it folks! 5 Nintendo Switch games to play during your holiday break. As always, we hope you have a happy and safe holiday season. There are plenty more options too, so leave a comment with what you’re playing over the holidays, or hit us up on Twitter and Facebook! We’d love to hear from you.
