After the fourth DLC team released last month with Team Samurai, composed of characters from the Samurai Showdown series, fans have been waiting to hear more news about the second season of The King Of Fighters XV. The first and only amount of information we’ve had on it has been from its announcement at EVO 2022 a few months ago. Now a new announcement trailer has provided a general time frame of when the DLC characters and various updates will be added or tested.

Starting it off in January are character refinements for the entire cast. Although we don’t know the specific changes or what characters will see buffs or nerfs, we do see Billy performing a combo he currently can’t do. January will also see the addition of Shingo Yabuki, who hasn’t been in a new mainline entry since 2005’s The King Of Fighters XI. He’ll be released as a single member instead of the team-based DLC releases of the first season.

More content releases are scheduled for Spring 2023, with an open beta test for the highly anticipated cross-platform play set to be held during this time. When it comes to characters, Kim Kaphwan will return from the previous entry and continue the trend of single-member DLC. An unspecified number of characters will join later on in this season, with five generic shadows potentially implying the same number of characters we can expect to learn about in the future.

The trailer also ends with news about another recent SNK fighting game that’s being updated. The 2019 Samurai Showdown entry is set to receive an update that adds rollback netcode that will hopefully improve online play. While there still isn’t an official release date planned, an open beta test starts on Steam in January 2023.

Samuel (he/him) has been obsessed with video games since he was a kid watching bumbling zombies shuffle down a hallway in Resident Evil 20+ years ago (it's debatable if he should have seen a mature-rated game at that age but he's personally okay with it). His hobby of writing and talking people's ears off about video games has always felt like a perfect match. Feel free to let him talk your ear off on Twitter!: https://twitter.com/xxsammorenoxx
