When Overwatch 2 was revealed to be free-to-play back in June, a roadmap was shown for the first two seasons. Although the second season is expected to launch with a new map, 30+ skins, and a battle pass, a major highlight is the upcoming tank hero. The former has not yet been gone over, but the next hero and their origin story were revealed during the Overwatch League Grand Finals on Friday.

His name is Ramattra and he is the leader of Null Sector, an omnic extremist group that was heavily featured through multiple events in the lore and is expected to be a primary antagonist for the upcoming PvE mode. Initially created as a command unit during the Omnic Crisis, he later strived for peace and enlightenment alongside the popular support hero Zenyatta. Ramattra’s view changed as he saw more of his kind being killed and discriminated against by humans, prompting him to take on more extremist ideals to protect his own people.

Those that played the original Overwatch might recognize him from when he was originally revealed (albeit without a name) during the ending cinematic of the 2019 Storm Rising Archives event. Among the other robot and omnic heroes released so far, he is the first to take an antagonistic role and he’s likely to be a key figure of the story itself due to being the Null Sector leader.

Players will have the chance to try him out once season 2 starts next month on December 6th. Players will be able to unlock him immediately by purchasing the premium battle pass or for free by grinding through the free battle pass track. According to different press articles, the latter option will still require players to work until level 55 as it is also needed to unlock season 1’s hero Kiriko.

Speaking of new content, the Halloween Terror 2022 event ends tomorrow, November 8th. On top of a new co-op mission and exclusive challenge rewards, the shop has bundles for a Witch Kiriko skin as well as older Halloween event hero skins. There’s no telling when some of these items may be rotated back into the shop or whether some of them will be earnable again, so it might be worth spending some time playing if something caught your eye.

Samuel (he/him) has been obsessed with video games since he was a kid watching bumbling zombies shuffle down a hallway in Resident Evil 20+ years ago (it's debatable if he should have seen a mature-rated game at that age but he's personally okay with it). His hobby of writing and talking people's ears off about video games has always felt like a perfect match. Feel free to let him talk your ear off on Twitter!: https://twitter.com/xxsammorenoxx
