EA is starting to close online services for a number of its games. Granted, these aren’t new titles with major player bases. Still, it’s newsworthy because this is an interesting time to be a video game player, journalist, and fan of the medium. There are quite a few games leaving their online services in the past, which really feels like the end of an era for two consoles in particular. Here are the games that will look a lot different come 2023.

Per the EA website, a number of games that really saw their heyday in PS3 and Xbox 360 are coming to an end, at least online that is. Army of Two: The 40th Day and Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel are two games, for example, I loved from the 360 area. Those are going to close their online services on October 20th. A few weeks later on November 9th, Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 for PS3 and Xbox 360 and Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars for Xbox 360 end their services too.

At the end of November, Onrush will close its services, as will Super Mega Baseball: Extra Innings and Super Mega Baseball 3 on December 15th. Mirror’s Edge is shutting down services on January 19th, followed by Shank 2, NBA Jam On Fire Edition, and Gatling Gears. The Sims 4 won’t be joining these games in shutting down services, but it will be removed from the Play List for EA Play members. Replacing it will be The Sims 4 EA Play Edition.

“The development teams and operational staff pour their hearts into our games, their features, and modes almost as much as the players, and it is hard to see one retired,” EA says in the press release. These games will be playable still, as none are online-only titles. That said, this does remove a big part of their functionality. Particularly in the Xbox 360 and PS3 era, online services were playing a huge part in influencing the developers in the industry, as well as the games fans loved to play.
