Is it too harsh on Jodie to say, “Finally!”? I try to make clear a majority of the time that I’ve loved her, and I think with a return in a special, she’ll run head-first into the character. My issue with this is who’s following her out the door, as I’ve threatened many times to kick Chris out of the seat, metaphorically and physically. To the surprise of no one that heard that rumor from the Radio Times many months ago now, Jodie, Chris, and Segun will be leaving Doctor Who with “The Power Of The Doctor” on October 23rd.

Instantly, before anything is said about the actual trailer, it has to be said that the entire thing is designed so you don’t know what is going on. A good trailer gives you a short synopsis of the story and what to expect, to get you excited about something coming up. Much like the episodes of Chibnall’s I’ve been reviewing lately, there are far too many ideas to latch on to, either to seemingly make an exciting trailer or to talk about one thing. The Master, the Daleks, and the Cybermen are back, and so are several other things. Even “The Time Of The Doctor” had an easy throughline despite the many monsters towards the end and being a regeneration.

So Ace is back, the gobby Australian too, and brown Jesus/Rasputin. All on a backdrop of paintings going missing and the Master deciding to exposit vague nonsense again. Sure, as everyone else will tell you, it looks to be explosive, and it looks to be filled with fanfare, but I don’t trust either Chris Chibnall or the returning Jamie Magnus Stone to make an interesting and well-told story out of what we’ve seen so far. Speculation will be rife with the inclusion of two TARDIS’, but the truth is, do you really care or is it just the hope that we’ll get a glimpse of Ncuti as 14?

Maybe I am just disinterested because we’ve got the line “Hello Doctor. Welcome to the end of your existence.” and we know that isn’t true unless Chibbers is going to do another mass fan Wiki edit. I’ve said it time and time again, the Doctor isn’t interesting. The connection between seismology (earthquakes), missing paintings, a speeding space train, and Tennant’s orange space suit from “The Satan Pit,” the need for Vinder to return, and all the other tripe we see just isn’t there. Much like his episodes in the first place, there is little to no cause and effect in Chris’ writing, it is “and then” not “therefor” or “because.” I’m not excited for it, I’m excited for it to end.
