Microsoft may be an American company, but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t have their own presentation during this past weekend’s Tokyo Game Show, which primarily focused on titles from Asian developers. Several updates were shared on several upcoming titles to the Xbox ecosystem over a 40+ minute presentation. We’re going to go over all of the titles that were shadow-dropped onto the Xbox Game Pass library as well as the ones newly announced to be coming in the future.

We’ll first go over what’s available for subscribers to play right now. One of the biggest to be added is the well-received Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Expanding on the RPG gameplay elements introduced with Assassin’s Creed Origins, which was added to the Xbox Game Pass library back in June, this entry follows one of two siblings who ascends from a Spartan warrior to a hero of Ancient Greece. Famous historical figures and Greek mythology meet in this open-world adventure.

If you’re looking for another way to have fun with a different mythos, you’ll want to check out Amazing Cultivation Simulator. Players have to rebuild their sect, manage their supporters, and take on evil demons in this strategy and management-sim based on Chinese mythology.

Joining them is Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony Anniversary Edition. Similar to the first entry that joined in January and the second which joined in May, the goal is to find out who’s the murderer in a killing game between fellow high schoolers. This “Anniversary Edition” follows in the same vein as the previous ones to feature an updated user interface and a gallery mode. It also marks the first time that Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony Anniversary Edition is available for an Xbox console and is launching through Xbox Game Pass as well.

Another game capitalizing on an intense premise is Fuga: Melodies of Steel. Set in a world filled with anthropomorphic cats and dogs, this turn-based RPG focuses on a group of child survivors after their village is destroyed. Together they travel across war-torn lands in a giant tank. Players will have to take on enemies and make difficult choices that can affect who will survive to the end of the game.

That leaves the final game that was dropped with the presentation, Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Remastered. Most well known for having cinematics made in collaboration with the iconic Studio Ghibli and an art style that’s heavily inspired by their work, the game follows a boy named Oliver as he travels to another world in hopes of saving someone close to him. In addition to being the remastered version with updated graphics, this is also the RPG’s debut on Xbox consoles.

While that’s it for all of the added games, one of the games announced to be coming to the Xbox Game Pass library in the future is related. Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom is a sequel to Wrath of the White Witch and it’s set to launch on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S in 2023. Naturally, it will also be available for Xbox Game Pass subscribers too.

Continuing with upcoming games that were announced for Game Pass, next up is The Legend of Tianding. The side-scrolling platformer puts players in the shoes of the popular Taiwanese folk hero Liao Tianding. I had a ton of fun playing through The Legend of Tianding in my review last year, which can be read here.

Another game joining is Ghostlore. With eye-catching 2D isometric art, as well as both a setting and legendary monsters inspired by Southeast Asian territories, Ghostlore is a love letter to the developer’s home and neighboring countries. Procedurally generated maps will keep anyone playing this action RPG on their toes.

Those interested in checking out fighting games from Arc System Works should look forward to next year. BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, a crossover team fighting game that includes characters representing seven different franchises, will be released for the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S in Spring 2023. It will also be added to the Xbox Game Pass library at the same time. Last year it was announced that BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle would be updated with rollback netcode and the update went live in April. It’s presumed that these versions will also feature the updated netcode.

Guilty Gear Strive will also be added to Xbox Game Pass in Spring 2023. Similarly to the latest BlazBlue title, this entry will be the first in the series to be on both Xbox consoles too. Guilty Gear Strive was already developed with rollback netcode from the beginning, but an exciting future prospect that we learned during EVO 2022 is that a crossplay update is set to come this year during the Fall. If the Xbox versions have this crossplay update as well, the game will likely gain a monumental uptick in its player base next year.

That leaves us with the last two games, starting with what is coming on October 13th, Dyson Sphere Program. This early access factory-simulation title tasks players with building an efficient intergalactic factory. This is accomplished by managing and gathering resources from multiple planets to create various automation processes. Each playthrough procedurally generates a new universe with different planets, biomes, and resources to keep the gameplay fresh.

The final game that was announced and arguably one of the biggest was Deathloop. Arkane Lyon’s time-loop-based first-person shooter finally surpassed its one year of PlayStation console exclusivity and became available through Xbox Game Pass and for Xbox Series X|S consoles today, September 20th. All previous updates and the all-new Goldenloop update are also included. If you’d like to read about what else was shown during the presentation, the Xbox Wire news blog has a total recap. The full presentation is also available for viewing below.

Samuel (he/him) has been obsessed with video games since he was a kid watching bumbling zombies shuffle down a hallway in Resident Evil 20+ years ago (it's debatable if he should have seen a mature-rated game at that age but he's personally okay with it). His hobby of writing and talking people's ears off about video games has always felt like a perfect match. Feel free to let him talk your ear off on Twitter!: https://twitter.com/xxsammorenoxx
