After a lengthy absence of updates, the Gundam Evolution Twitter account announced a separate account just for eSports a couple of weeks back. This wasn’t the news many were looking for as Gundamn Evolution still lacked a specific release date and hadn’t shown anything since the closed console network test in June.
I had my fingers crossed that this was a sign we would be hearing more about the game soon, and thankfully my hopes were proven correct. Starting with some cryptic teasing that eventually led to a specific time and date, a mission briefing video revealed the release dates for Gundam Evolution and some of the content that players can look forward to with the first season.

The first thing to go over is the release dates, which you may notice is plural. Gundam Evolution will launch on PC next week on the 21st of September. Console players will have to wait a bit longer though, as the console launch won’t be until the 30th of November.
The sale of EVO Coins (real-life currency) will begin two days after the game’s release. My time in the closed PC network test already had currencies such as Capital Points, Supply Pod tickets, and Material Points. There’s no way to tell how much Gundam Evolution might push you to use EVO Coins or how they may interact directly with the other currencies. While it was only briefly touched upon in the video, the game’s website does show that a season pass can be upgraded to Premium Pass or Premium Pass Plus by using the EVO Coins.
Before we get to what will be available with the first season, it should be pointed out that Gundam Evolution will launch with more than what was in the closed network tests. For example, the Zaku II [Melee Loadout] and Mahiroo will be unlockable mobile suits when the game releases. Joining them for the first season is the Unicorn Gundam. Players will be able to unlock them with Capital Points or EVO coins.
Four new maps are also being added for Gundam Evolution‘s launch. They include the Wilderness Mining Field, Harbor City, Guiana Highlands, and Security Terminal. Harbor City was shown to have wide lines of sight and an out-of-bounds ocean area where players can knock each other off.
Customization options will be offered through season passes and supply pods, the same as they were in the network tests. More than 500 items will be available at launch, and two more customization item types will be added as well. Different character-select animations will be available, which will change mobile suit deployment screens, and portraits can be used when looking at the team screens.
Although the game is free-to-play, a paid DX Edition bundle will be available. This comes with exclusive cosmetics and all of the unlockable mobile suits announced so far. A proper price wasn’t provided, although BANDAI NAMCO did reveal it would cost 4180 EVO Coins.
We also have an idea of how future seasons will look. Each season is expected to last about two months and new units will be added with them. Supply pods are meant to renew along with the new seasons too. Altogether it has the makings to be a substantial and steady schedule of content, but there’s no knowing for sure until the game launches later this month.
