On Wednesday, The Pokémon Company released a new video direct with tons of info surrounding current and upcoming games. The most exciting news by far was the newest gameplay trailer showing off Pokémon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet for the Nintendo Switch.

Mr. Takato Utsunomiya of the Pokémon Company then provided a variety of insights regarding the gameplay showcase. Scarlet and Violet are confirmed to be the first truly open-world games in the Pokémon series and will also contain three separate story campaigns, the first of which will focus on the typical Pokémon League challenge.

Quite a lot of story details were revealed here with the introduction of dozens of new NPCs and the basic premise of the game. Scarlet and Violet take place in the Paldea region where you take on the role of a new student at a prestigious Pokemon Academy. Here you have chosen to take part in an independent study project known as the “Treasure Hunt” which will no doubt act as the unifying structure that will link the three separate campaigns together.

Additionally, the trailer also debuted the newest regional evolution known as Terastal forms. This will not only provide a power boost to the Pokémon’s stats and moves but may also change its type. So far it seems to be a hybrid of regional forms and mega evolution but with less of a radical design change.

Finally, the trailer gave insight into the enhanced multiplayer connectivity and PVE options for these newest entries. Raid battles make a return, this time against rare Terastal Pokémon. Scarlet and Violet will also allow for up to four players to explore the region and catch Pokémon through co-op.

These are some exciting developments for the franchise and will certainly provide a breath of new content for players to jump into this November. So far I’m feeling a lot more hopeful for these games after the disappointing previous titles. Scarlet and Violent seem to be finally delivering the modern Pokémon experience fans have been clamoring for ever since the series moved onto mainline Nintendo consoles. Pokémon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet will launch on Nintendo Switch on November 18th, 2022.

I've been playing games since I was a little kid. I have a soft spot for Nintendo titles and RPG's but play all kinds of titles across a variety of platforms. Outside of games I love to play music and practice martial arts. You can find me on Facebook and Instagram as well.
