Skullgirls is a fighting game that’s had quite a turbulent history since its release ten years ago. The development team behind it has always been supported by a loyal fanbase and were even able to crowdfund extra characters through Indiegogo. On the other hand, they also had to deal with team changes and issues with publishers. Among all of the highs and lows though, two of the biggest achievements have been being able to support an official season pass of new characters and finally making it to the main stage of games selected for this year’s EVO Championship Series.

Something to look forward to will be when both those elements come together next month. As fun as watching high-level play can be with fighting games at EVO, another reason that everyone is excited about this event year after year is for the incredible reveals and news. For Skullgirls we know that the final character from the season pass will be revealed at EVO.

Although this is being hyped up and officially announced through the Skullgirls Twitter account, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen hints about this. Last month when the alpha for Black Dahlia (the third season pass character) became playable, the announcement on Steam mentioned a lot of big news. Not only did it confirm that the game would be released on the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S platforms in the future, but also that Black Dahlia would be fully playable later in 2022. In regards to the final character, they’re set to release in 2023 and more news about them would be at EVO.

There are a lot of characters already based on the game’s universe that could be made into playable characters. Many expect the character to be the still-unplayable boss Marie, but it’s hard to say when there are so many choices. It’s sure to be an exciting reveal for all of the fans who have stuck with the game.

Samuel (he/him) has been obsessed with video games since he was a kid watching bumbling zombies shuffle down a hallway in Resident Evil 20+ years ago (it's debatable if he should have seen a mature-rated game at that age but he's personally okay with it). His hobby of writing and talking people's ears off about video games has always felt like a perfect match. Feel free to let him talk your ear off on Twitter!: https://twitter.com/xxsammorenoxx
