Our coverage of all these conferences during the most exciting time of the year continues with Future Games Show June 2022 by GamesRadar+, hosted by actors Denise Gough and Doug Cockle. You likely know them as the voice actors for Yennefer and Geralt from The Witcher series of games. There’s a lot to cover here and a whole lot of demos for these games too, so let’s just dive right into things.

Starting the show off was Outpost, a game that mixes first-person shooter and strategy elements such as base-building. According to its Steam page, there will be cooperative multiplayer. It’s just a working title for now and doesn’t have a release date just yet.

Next was a psychological horror title called LUTO. The game is meant to touch upon different phobias as well as depict anxiety and depression. It involves every kid’s cheap ghost Halloween costume actually looking pretty spooky. The release date is estimated for later this year.

Nightingale, the shared-world survival crafting game that we first saw at last year’s Game Awards Show, and recently received a trailer at Summer Games Fest, was shown next. The CEO of the development team gave more details on the Realm Cards mechanic and how it ties into their procedural generation system. Currently, it’s expected to have an early access release in Q4 of 2022.

Providing a break from some of these bleaker games was Tray Racers, an online multiplayer racing game from the same developer as PHOGS!. If you love racing down a hill on a tray or you’ve ever wanted to, this looks to be a comically more fun representation of the experience. It will be coming to PC and Nintendo Switch in 2023.

Next was the first montage of the presentation for publisher Kwalee with a variety of different games. The games shown and their release dates are as follows: Wildmender for 2023, Die by the Blade for later in 2022, Scathe on August 31st of this year, and Robobeat for 2023.

If metal and hack ‘n’ slash games are more your speed, you’ll definitely want to check out Morbid Metal. Players can switch between four different blade-wielding characters on the fly to fight against hordes of deadly machine enemies. The release date is TBA.

Turbo Golf Racing was the next game to be shown. Those who always wanted to play a Rocket League-inspired game mixed with Golf can do some when the came releases into early access on August 4th. You can also try it out now with its free second beta that’s running for Steam Next Fest until June 20th.

For those that are fans of stories like The Truman Show, American Arcadia might just be the game for you. Made by the same developers as Call of the Sea, their latest game takes place in a retro-futuristic city where everyone is being broadcasted on TV and killed off when they lose popularity. This 2.5D/3D adventure does not have a release date just yet.

Everyone loves a good simulator now and then and the following trailer was for Alaskan Truck Simulator. I presume truck driving is even more difficult with the freezing and snowy terrain of Alaska. It has a release date of Q4 2022, but you can currently play a demo of the game on its Steam page to check out the game early.

The Entropy Centre was next to be shown and gave me some Portal vibes. The game will task players with solving puzzles with ASTRA, a time-reversing gun that also comes with a cute AI. For now, the release date is set for later in 2022.

The second montage was specifically for games from Ukrainian developers. The first of these games was Puzzles for Clef, a relaxing puzzle platformer that’s expected to release in Q2 2023 and has a demo on Steam. Next was Zero Losses, a short open-world horror game inspired by the Russo-Ukrainian War and expected to release in the Summer of 2022. Following it up was This Rain Will Never End, a noir cat detective game where you play as a cat detective with a release date TBA.

Farlanders was next to be shown. Although the terraforming colony-building game set on Mars has a TBA release date, there is a free prologue to check out on Steam. The last game shown for this montage was Through the Nightmares, a hardcore platformer that has you travel through the nightmares of children. Its release date is set for 2023, although an updated demo just recently went up on its Steam page.

The next game was Lost in Play, a puzzle adventure game that follows a brother and sister who get a little too lost in their imaginative play. It features an art style similar to Gravity Falls. Players can look forward to this when it launches on August 10th on PC and Nintendo Switch or play the demo now on Steam.

Heading back to simulators we have Brewmaster: Beer Brewing Simulator. There isn’t a release date for the game available yet, but if you’re interested in making your own digital beer, you can check out the demo on Steam right now.

From casual and relaxing beer making to dark folklore involving a creature who lures people to drown in a lake, Bramble: The Mountain King was shown next. The unsettling adventure game is planned to release in 2023.

Enemy of the State was shown next. Although the trailer is purely cinematic, the game is set during the 1920s as you and up to two other players in co-op can raise the ranks of the mafia underworld. It’s currently expected to release in 2024.

If games set in the past aren’t your speed, then one in a dystopian future might just be. Sunday Gold mixes point-and-click adventure with turn-based combat as three characters try to bring down an evil corporation. Players can look forward to it when it releases later this year.

Next was a survival horror VR game where you play as a man stuck in a strange version of his house and searching for his wife and daughter. Do Not Open is expected to release during Fall 2022 on Steam as well as PSVR for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

Bright Memory: Infinite was the next game to feature a trailer. Although the genre-mashing title was released on Steam back in November of last year, it’s now set to come out to consoles on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and the Nintendo Switch.

Soulslike Metroidvania meets designs inspired by the gothic horror genre in The Last Faith. Melee weapons, firearms, and magic are all at the player character’s disposal. The bloody and pixelated title is expected to release on PC and consoles later on in 2022.

The third montage was for developer and publisher Team 17, who we knew ahead of time would be showcasing some titles. The games and their expected release dates are: Thymesia on August 9th, Autopsy Simulator in November, The Unliving coming to early access on October 31st, Ship of Fools in later 2022, the previously mentioned Sunday Gold, Sweet Transit coming to early access on July 28th, Batora Lost Haven in Fall 2022, The Knight Witch also in Fall 2022, and finally Killer Frequency later on in 2022 for Steam and Meta Quest 2.

Once again breaking the ice from a darker game previously, the next title was Tinykin. The adorable platformer has you using small bug creatures called tinykin to help the similarly small protagonist explore gigantic rooms. It’s releasing on August 30th and you can play a demo now on the game’s Steam page.

Heading back to more gruesomeness we have a sequel to 2017’s Serial Cleaner, aptly called Serial Cleaners. It’s a stealth action game about four people who clean up murder scenes for the mob. Each has different playstyles and you’ll play through each one’s stories. It’s set to come out on September 22nd.

For those looking for a simulator that will take them to the skies, chances are you’ll be interested in Airport Sim. There isn’t a precise release date for it, but you can look forward to your opportunity to hopefully fly safely in 2023.

The final montage was the “Ones to Watch” montage which consisted of some general upcoming games. They included Fueled Up releasing later this year and available to try out in its Steam demo, Dinkum releasing next month on July 14th, MultiVersus (whose Alpha I enjoyed) releasing July 2022, Mythbusters The Game coming soon with a release date TBA, Shadows of Doubt coming in 2023, Last Time I Saw You with a demo on Steam but release date TBA, Instinction with a release date TBA, and Beyond Sunset which will release Summer 2023 and has a Steam demo available now.

Fans of games from developer Amanita Design, who made the popular Machinarium and most recently Happy Game, will certainly want to check out their next title. The fiberboard-based adventure is called Phonopolis, it will come to multiple platforms, and for now, its release date is TBA.

Admittedly one of the most unique Metroidvania I’ve seen, Being and Becoming has you take control of a lucid dreamer to explore an underwater kingdom that has been affected by a collective dream. As of right now, the release date is TBA.

Narrative adventure fans might be interested in Arctic Awakening, a title that has you stranded in Alaska with an AI drone after your plane is mysteriously cut in half. It’s expected to come out sometime in 2023.

F1 Manager 2022 was shown next and is sure to excite those who want to manage their finances, the right staff, and the best vehicles to create the perfect team. Those who pre-order can receive five-day early access and play it on August 25th.

Fans of Smite who also like brawler combat will find the following game to be an interesting one. Divine Knockout will take chibi versions of your favorite deities as they knock each other around in physics-based combat. It’s expected to launch later this year and alpha signups have already begun.

First announced at last year’s Summer Game Fest, and then shown again at the Game Awards, we got to see a new trailer with new areas and dangerous machines for the visually striking Planet of Lana. The 2D sidescrolling platformer is expected to release later this year.

For fans of the Deadly Premonition series who didn’t get the chance to play the Nintendo Switch-exclusive sequel or perhaps wanted to play it on a more powerful system, you’ll all be happy with the next announcement. Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise doesn’t just have a PC port, it’s now available on Steam.

Next, we saw Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley, a musical adventure game with an artbook style that’s based on Finnish author Tove Jansson’s characters. Players will have to restore the harmony of nature by helping local villagers and creatures through environmental and music-based puzzles. It’s expected to release in 2023.

In what may have arguably been the most surprising games to be shown, PalWorld takes some strong influence from the Pokémon series and mixes them with very visually-contrasting guns and plenty of other genre-mashing mechanics. Look forward to having your Pals build you a spaceship or mount the machine guns in 2023.

Closing out the presentation was ILL, a first-person horror game being made on Unreal Engine 5. Not much was shown in the most if not entirely CGI 35-second trailer, but it does look pretty gruesome and makes great use of the engine. The release date is TBA.

That’s it for Future Games Show June 2022! This presentation was packed full of games and what’s even better is that a lot of them have demos on Steam for those interested in trying them out. We’ve had a decent set of conferences and presentations so far and this one had a lot of variety. If you’d like to see the full presentation which was mainly comprised of all of the above trailers, you can see it below.

Samuel (he/him) has been obsessed with video games since he was a kid watching bumbling zombies shuffle down a hallway in Resident Evil 20+ years ago (it's debatable if he should have seen a mature-rated game at that age but he's personally okay with it). His hobby of writing and talking people's ears off about video games has always felt like a perfect match. Feel free to let him talk your ear off on Twitter!: https://twitter.com/xxsammorenoxx
