Devolver Digital’s presentations are always among my favorites during events like E3, or in this case the Summer Games Fest. This time, it’s called Devolver Digital’s Marketing Countdown to Marketing. If you couldn’t already tell, they’re once again not really taking themselves seriously. Their presentations always are about storytelling while making fun of other kinds of presentations, and they knocked it out of the park once more. This time with a special appearance of Suda 51.

I highly recommend watching the half-hour presentation online just to experience the fun yourself while taking a look at a handful of interesting games. The first game shown was announced a little while back. Cult of the Lamb got a new trailer along with a release date of August 11th, 2022. We only have about two more months before we get to play this interesting game about farming, dungeon-crawling and (of course) building your own cult.

Anger Foot is a fast-paced action-shooter along the lines of Doom with an intense soundtrack and the ability to kick the crap out of whichever enemies you face. The game seems to be made for any fans of fast, mindless fun and is set to release sometime in 2023.

Card Shark has been out for a couple of days already. However, showcasing the trailer gave everyone a reminder to play the game about helping your companions cheat at card games while trying to remain as inconspicuous as possible. The game is out on Nintendo Switch and PC.

My favorite game of the presentation, The Plucky Squire, is a game about a cartoon adventurer moving between a drawn world in a storybook and the real world. The game seems to have a lot of different gameplay elements, from top-down, Zelda-like adventure game elements to beat-em-up segments. The visuals, as well as the overall concept have me hooked already, and I can’t wait to play it when it comes out.

The last game shown also seems quite interesting. Skate Story has stunning visuals and music by Blood Cultures. It is about a polygonal demon on a journey through the underworld, all while on a skateboard. It’s quite the odd concept, but I’m always down to play strange games like this one. Unfortunately, we don’t have a release date yet.

As mentioned earlier, only a handful of games were shown at this presentation, but they’re all so different that there should be something for everyone in the mix. The presentation was incredibly fun to watch and I can’t wait for the next one.

Hey there! I'm Aaron, 26 and from Germany. I mostly play games with a stronger emphasis on a good story, but occasionally can be found delving into a genre I'm not too accustomed to. Diversity and accessibility are important aspects in gaming for me as well, which are always important conversations to have for me personally.
