Have you ever wondered who manages the NPCs that give quests, run stores, and more in a fantasy town? Have you ever wondered who accepts shipments of mead and ale for the tavern? Who is the idiot who can’t handle a rat infestation in every single fantasy realm? Well, A Hero’s Rest might not answer those questions, but it will bring fantasy town management to Early Access this year.

Vanargand Games’ first title, A Hero’s Rest will release in Early Access by the end of Q3 2022. Developed by a team of two people, it puts you in the shoes of someone responsible for running a fantasy town. Here is the premise via the Steam Page:

In a world abounding with monsters, His Majesty the King tasks you with warding off the threats that surround the land. For this, you are given the role of the proprietor of a fantasy town where you will recruit Heroes, manage your resources and supply your shops with the wares that your Heroes need for their adventures.

A Hero’s Rest will put your management skills to the test as you fight to grow your town’s popularity while tending to your Heroes’ needs & His Majesty’s demands.”

Not only will you be sending heroes off to their potential doom, but you’ll be responsible for building and stocking the various shops they’ll use. So, I think this is a great concept to mess around with for both sim management fans and fans of other games such as city builders. Vanargand Games’ debut game looks interesting, but we’ve still got a little while to wait before the Q3 Early Access launch. Hopefully, all our little warrior lemmings will stay alive until then.
