Studio Awaceb, the developers behind Tchia, have been hard at work on their upcoming tropical adventure. Tchia is slated to release in 2023 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. Other platforms are likely possible post-launch, but until then we have a new gameplay trailer that shows off some new content.

Here is what the press release has to say about the new trailer. “The genuine love the Awaceb team have for New Caledonia, homeland of Awaceb’s co-founders, is overflowing in this gameplay snippet with its emphasis on cruising the glistening blue waters that surround the island, exploring the ocean depths, and traversing the waterway of a beautiful archipelago. The art style, color palettes, and music come together to create something incredibly heartwarming and welcoming.

Away from the water, Tchia also draws inspiration from the flora and fauna of New Caledonia to create a charming open-world to explore – take control of almost any animal or object you can find or jam on your fully playable Ukulele!

Tchia was delayed into 2023 in order to give the development team more time to realize their creative vision. This is one of those situations where I think delays are necessary, if not important. Otherwise, when the game was released it wouldn’t be what the developers envisioned, and the overall product would likely suffer.

In any case, I’m excited to see more about the New Caledonia-inspired environments and wildlife in Tchia. I love games that explore cultures and locations that I’ve never experienced, and I think this is just one that overflows with character and vibrance. Tchia will release sometime in 2023 on PC and PlayStation consoles. Hopefully, we’ll have a full release date by the end of the year, so we’ll know just how much longer we have to wait.
