It’s nearly time for another (hopefully) momentous announcement from Blizzard Entertainment. I mentioned in this article from back in early March that John Hight, the Warcraft franchise’s General Manager, stated in a blog post that Blizzard would have more information to share on the rumored World of Warcraft mobile game sometime in May. Well, it appears that they’re not going to keep us waiting much longer for that news.

Blizzard announced yesterday via Twitter that they’ll hold another reveal Livestream on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2022 at precisely 10 am Pacific Time which will center on that mobile game. I say “another” reveal Livestream because that was also the medium through which they chose to announce both World of Warcraft: Dragonflight and Wrath of the Lich King Classic back on April 19th. If precedent is anything to go by, I suspect this Livestream will be quite similar to the previous event Blizzard held earlier this month.

Leading up to this announcement event in early May, Blizzard hasn’t said very much at all about the World of Warcraft mobile game or what it may contain. That’s why I can hardly even speculate about it in this article, honestly. The closest thing Blizzard has produced in the past to a fully-fledged WoW mobile game is the WoW Companion mobile app, which primarily allows players with characters who are questing through certain expansions to manage their follower missions while on the go.

I’d say that’s a pretty far cry from a full mobile game, but I’m interested to see what Blizzard may have up its sleeve nonetheless. For what it’s worth, I just sincerely hope Blizzard doesn’t commit another significant gaffe like they did when they initially announced Diablo Immortal, which infamously saw one of their representatives rather callously ask his audience whether or not they had phones. Hopefully, Blizzard has learned from the backlash from that moment, but I suppose time will tell.

He greatly enjoys many different varieties of games, particularly several notable RPGs and turn-based strategy titles. When he's not helping to build or plan computers for friends, he can usually be found gaming on his personal machine or listening to an audiobook to unwind.
