It certainly seems as though Blizzard Entertainment has a lot to announce in the coming months. This news comes according to a post on their website that was written by John Hight and published on March 7th, 2022. Let’s discuss everything Blizzard mentioned in that blog post, starting with the fact that a new expansion to Hearthstone’s already extensive library of cards will be revealed quite soon. More specifically, the first of three expansions to the game that are planned for this year will have more details shared about it on Tuesday, March 15th, 2022.

Blizzard also mentions that sometime soon after those details about Hearthstone’s next expansion are made public, there will be further details shared about changes to the so-called “core set” of playable cards. Such changes are typically made at least once a year when news about the coming expansions starts to roll out. I can’t think of any specific, concrete examples of alterations that might be made to the core set this year, but I’m sure they won’t exactly be catastrophic if you’re particularly fond of that set of cards.

Let us now leave the Hearthstone tavern so that we can discuss more pressing World of Warcraft news. It’ll still be a while yet before we hear anything concrete about the future of Blizzard’s biggest moneymaker, but it thankfully won’t be too awfully long of a wait. According to the blog post, Blizzard plans to reveal World of Warcraft’s next expansion on Tuesday, April 19th, 2022.

Beyond that, Blizzard also very briefly mentioned that they’ll have more information to share about the rumored World of Warcraft mobile game sometime in May. That’s virtually all we know on that front, since Blizzard really didn’t say much on the topic. If I had to guess, I’d say their attention is probably split between development of this apparent mobile game and preparing details about the next WoW expansion, at least for the time being.

Aside from a bunch of news about World of Warcraft Classic, the upcoming Arena World Championship and Mythic Dungeon Invitational, and the final so-called “Race to World First” in the Shadowlands’ expansion’s final raid, that was essentially everything Blizzard elected to publicly announce. For what it’s worth, I have something of a theory about what the next fully-fledged WoW expansion may entail given the fact that cross-faction play will be made available in certain circumstances with the launch of Patch 9.2.5.

With that fact in mind, I can’t help but wonder if the next expansion after Shadowlands will take players back to Azeroth and task the Alliance and Horde with working together to restore their world to what it once was after everything the planet has endured over the course of the past few expansions. After all, it’ll probably take a herculean effort to restore Azeroth after such events like the Cataclysm and the fact that there’s still a giant, evil, titan sword sticking out of Silithus.
