Other than the now-defunct Marvel Heroes, I haven’t found a single Action-RPG in the vein of Diablo that has a Superhero theme. Now, that could be because I haven’t looked super hard, there are tons of indie games out there that have passed by my radar. However, the announcement of Superfuse, by developer Stitch Heads and publisher Raw Fury, has definitely given out that same vibe for me.
Superfuse is a Comic book-inspired Action-RPG that will have players fighting through hordes of enemies. It boasts a robust skill-tree system that should allow players to tailor their abilities according to their playstyle. The developers also are intending for it to be playable solo or entirely in 4-player co-op. Superfuse will come to Early Access later this year, with a full release in 2023. Here is what the press release has to say about Superfuse.
“Centuries ago, humanity escaped the dying Earth with technology funded by the corporate elite. As humans spread across the solar system, the wealthy lived in luxury, extending their lives and augmenting themselves with superpowers, becoming gods while the rest of humanity barely clung to life. Dissent grew but a new threat emerged in the form of shambling monsters called the Corruption. And so the corporate gods created the Enforcers to patrol the solar system and deal with the danger posed by the Corruption. You have joined the ranks of the Enforcers and must do whatever is needed to maintain order and ensure humanity’s future.
Superfuse is a hack-and-slash, Action RPG with the ability to hyper-tailor your powers to suit your playstyle. With a staggering number of possible skill combinations, Superfuse’s skill tree is as deep as it goes. Play solo in campaign mode to uncover the secrets of The Corruption and the Gods — or cooperate in 4-person multiplayer with friends to demolish hordes of grotesque creatures, hulking abominations, and larger-than-life bosses that feel like they have stepped right out from the pages of a comic book.”
I’m excited to see what Superfuse turns into. I love the idea of a superhero-themed Action-RPG that isn’t connected to Marvel or DC. It gives plenty of freedom for worldbuilding and all sorts of cool mechanics. Who knows, it may be able to compete with other indie ARPGs like Path of Exile. Overall, I like what I see so far with Superfuse.
