I love a good casual indie game. In fact, games like Slime Rancher and Animal Crossing are great ways to relax and unwind. Clouzy! seemed like a good entry in this genre at first glance. However, behind the cute exterior, there are some issues.

Let’s start with the good bits though. Clouzy! is a colorful hybrid of pet care, exploration, and a farming sim where you run the Clouzy! daycare for clouds. Each cloud has its own preferences of play, as well as its favorite foods and ingredients for said foods. I will admit that it took me a bit to get into Clouzy!, mostly because the cooking mechanic bugged out when I played the first time.

This is actually a common theme with Clouzy!, as things are either poorly explained or occasionally will just stop working. This isn’t an issue with just the Switch version either, the PC version is full of reviews citing various issues. In fact, the game practically opens up immediately, so other than a few introductory quests that loosely explain certain mechanics, you’re somewhat on your own.

One thing I can say for Clouzy! though, is that each of the clouds you take care of is absolutely adorable. The game itself is very colorful as well, and there are lots of things to explore. You will have to explore the world, solve puzzles, and reach new areas in order to find some ingredients to raise certain clouds properly.

Each biome has different ingredients and things to do as well. The game is pretty full of quests and things to do, so whether you’re focused on tending the Daycare or venturing out to new pastures, you’ll have plenty to do. You also have a pet companion (either cat or dog) who can help you on your travels. You can direct them and play with them, just like your clouds.

In fact, playing with them is a part of the game! You have to make sure they are happy, and a good work/life balance is important for you too isn’t it? While I had some issues with the cooking at the start, I should mention that there are a ton of recipes and ingredients to find. I love games that have a robust cooking system, and there is also a pretty hefty upgrade system as well.

The cloud types could stand to have a little more visual variety, much like the slimes in Slime Rancher. However, they’re pretty cute, and it is a fun puzzle trying to make sure that you don’t keep any clouds together that don’t get along. I also really enjoy how colorful the characters and environments are, which is definitely a selling point.

If you’re on the fence because of me mentioning the bugs earlier in the review, you might want to know that the developers are working on fixing bugs pretty regularly. The game has patched at least once since I finished preparing for this review, so keep that in mind. Overall, I don’t think that Clouzy! has the same level of quality as Slime Rancher, but I do think it is a very solid, relaxing game.

The music is great, the environments are colorful and interesting, and there is a lot to do. If you take your time and play at your own pace, then Clouzy! might be something fun to relax and unwind with. Besides, who doesn’t want to have a bit of fun with adorable clouds in a daycare?
