Today is a joyous day for all LEGO Star Wars fans! Earlier today, the developers of the game dropped a new Gameplay Overview trailer for the long-awaited LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. While there are quite a few things from the trailer to break down, let’s talk about the one that is the most important a.k.a. the release date. The new release date for this game, and take this with a grain of salt since there have already been delays, is April 5th, 2022! That is a little more than three months away until we can finally go galivanting across the Star Wars galaxy as our favorite characters from the movies.

A lot of the features shown in the trailer were leaked or rumored about in the past, but let’s go through some of the big ones now that they have been fully confirmed. The first thing to look at is the Galaxy Map. This is something that you can open up using your holo-projector in order to zip around the galaxy at any point in your Saga adventures. From the use of it that we see in the trailer, there appears to be 24 planets that you can explore. How they are unlocked is still a bit of a mystery, but it does seem to be through unlocking the next parts of the nine episodes. It is important to note that there are a few empty spaces on the map that could indicate either secret planets or additional planets they plan to add in future DLC.

Another major feature that is shown off in the trailer is the Mumble Mode that is under the Extras part of the Menu. For those who have played LEGO games since the beginning, the mumbling lines of the characters were a staple of the experience. In recent times, the LEGO games have moved over to voice acting or inserting the dialogue from the game’s respective movies instead of the mumbling. Now, the developers have listened to the fans and have returned this feature for those who want to have “the classic LEGO Star Wars experience.”

One of the greatest changes from previous games is the combat system. It has been entirely overhauled in order to make the combat look more fluid and to have a bit of variety to the mix. Blasters have been changed to have seemingly consistent reticles and the lightsabers now allow you to make combat combos in order to make some pretty neat-looking moves. There is also a way for you to take cover behind barricades and class abilities that you can unlock over time that will allow you to traverse maps in different ways in order to unlock new secrets. The hearts are also gone in favor of a health bar.

The last thing that I want to mention is the pre-order bonuses. Despite all of the delays to the game, they have remained the same. It is important though to know the differences between the various versions that you can buy. The Standard Edition (digital and physical) will run you an average of $59.99 and include just the game. The Deluxe Edition will cost you $69.99 and will come with a Character Collection Bundle which will contain characters from The Mandalorian, Rogue One, The Bad Batch, Solo, and various other characters from the universe. However, the physical version of the Deluxe Edition comes with the additional goody of a Luke Skywalker with Blue Milk Minifigure. Needless to say, I am definitely going to be picking that one up. Make sure to also check the store you buy it from as they might have additional goodies.
