Just one day after The Game Awards and announcing that Xbox Game Pass for PC has been rebranded as the much better-named PC Game Pass, Microsoft held an ID@Xbox Gathering Showcase to promote some future indie games coming to their platforms. Although a big name among them was the reveal of Sniper Elite 5 which is coming day one to Xbox Game Pass, there were plenty of interesting titles showcased that you may or may not have already known about.

For me, the most exciting reveal was that WolfEye Studios’ Weird West would be coming to Xbox Game Pass day one as well. It’s the first game from this studio with exciting amounts of experience behind it, being founded by Raphaël Colantonio, the former founder of Arkane Studios. As a huge fan of the Dishonored series, it’s no surprise that many people (myself included) are interested in what the founder of the studio and creative director of that series would put their efforts into next.

Granted, someone known for making immersive first-person games leaving to make an immersive isometric game is quite the change. The inspiration from the fantasy/horror Weird West genre, which the game is eponymously named after, might make for an interesting backdrop. However, some are skeptical that the immersive genre can be translated well to genres outside of first-person. Personally, I have strong faith that the game will nail these elements just fine.

My bias doesn’t just come from watching trailers and general excitement though. WolfEye Studios was kind enough to provide us with an early access PC copy to preview last month that I had a blast playing. If you’re curious about my time with Weird West, you can read through my write-up for the preview here.

The game was already on my radar for titles to check out next month, but now that it’s set to be on Game Pass it’s even more of a no-brainer. Weird West will be launching on January 11th, 2022, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and be made available on both Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.

Samuel (he/him) has been obsessed with video games since he was a kid watching bumbling zombies shuffle down a hallway in Resident Evil 20+ years ago (it's debatable if he should have seen a mature-rated game at that age but he's personally okay with it). His hobby of writing and talking people's ears off about video games has always felt like a perfect match. Feel free to let him talk your ear off on Twitter!: https://twitter.com/xxsammorenoxx
