When the PlayStation Showcase was announced, my expectations were rather low. Mostly because E3 happened not too long ago and I figured most big games had already been announced. While a lot of the games shown at this showcase were anything but new announcements, Sony definitely surprised me with a good amount of new ones. I’m going to break down every shown game in the following, but I still recommend watching the full thing for a good look at all the new trailers we got.

The first game shown was actually one of the biggest surprises for me personally. When I saw the Lucasfilm-Logo fading into view, I figured this would be a sequel to the great Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. When it turned out to be a remake of the 2003 hit Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, I definitely went “Huh.” to the friends that watched the showcase with me. Not because I was underwhelmed, I’m actually fairly excited to play this since I never got around to playing the original. I just really didn’t expect this. A pleasant surprise for sure.

Next up is Project EVE. This action-packed Korean game with horrifying-looking monsters and slick gameplay looks like a mix between Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, and maybe a little bit of Nier: Automata. It is definitely a game to look out for and it looks quite promising from what’s been shown so far.

We already saw some footage on Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands earlier this year, but as a fan of the Borderlands-Franchise as well as the tabletop-RPG Dungeons & Dragons, I cannot wait to play this game. While it doesn’t seem to reinvent the wheel, it does look like it’s trying to freshen up the Borderlands formula somewhat. That is something that is much needed at this point.

One of my most anticipated games, Forspoken, got a new trailer showing off some more amazing-looking gameplay as well as a window of release. We can expect to start diving into this new IP during the Spring of next year. The PvE-focused Rainbow Six: Extraction is releasing in January 2022 and looks like fun for fans of Zombie-modes in FPS-Games.

Alan Wake Remastered was announced a few days back, but I really didn’t mind watching another trailer for it. It’s a good reminder that it releases very soon on October 5th. It also wouldn’t be a video game presentation without a gentle nudge from Rockstar Games telling us that GTA V is still very much alive. The PS5-Version is releasing some time in March of next year.

Ghostwire: Tokyo was shown off in an entirely new trailer as well. It still looks as great as the first time we saw it a couple of years ago. Japanese mythology and folklore are always interesting to explore, and I’m already certain that this action-focused game with a good amount of horror elements will do a good job of doing just that and more.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy gave us another taste of its fun-looking gameplay and some background lore, sure to make fans excited for its release on October 26th. The Battle Royale Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodhunt is releasing on PS5 sometime this year. For those interested, Early Access on PC started a couple of days ago.

I almost don’t want to jinx it, but Deathloop is coming out in just a couple of days, on September 14th. I don’t think there’s any new info I can give you, given how many times this game has been shown off at several showcases and conferences.

We got a small tease from Radiohead and Epic Games regarding Kid A Mnesia Exhibition. There’s not really anything known about this game, or whether it’s actually going to be a game. What we do know is that it has something to do with the band’s remastered album Kid A Mnesia. Coming this November.

The very cute-looking Tchia was a nice change to the other games shown during this presentation. I’m definitely going to pick up this Tropical open-world adventure where the main character seems to have the ability to “possess” animals and explore the world around them. The game looks absolutely gorgeous and surely looks like the type of game you play after a long day to unwind and relax.

As a big fan of the franchise, I am excited for the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection. I can’t wait to play both of these stunning games on the PS5, even if I would’ve preferred a new game. Beggars can’t be choosers, right? The collection is coming to PS5 and PC in Early 2022.

Marvel strikes again with a Wolverine game that is currently in development. Apart from the cinematic teaser, not much info was given, but it’s nice to see Insomniac working on a new IP rather than solely focusing on Spider-Man.

For the racing fans among you, Gran Turismo 7 probably can’t come soon enough. The wait actually won’t be that long, because the game is releasing on March 4th, so just six months away. A pretty okay wait I’d say, considering how delays have been going with a lot of big titles.

Speaking of long waits, Marvel actually came through with yet another announcement. Spider-Man 2 got officially announced, and the trailer already has me incredibly excited for the sequel to one of my favorite games of the last couple of years. It looks like one of the main antagonists is going to be Venom, which makes me that much more excited. The only downside to this announcement is that the game’s not releasing until some time in 2023.

As is somewhat of a custom at this point, the last game shown was God of War Ragnarok. I’m not complaining either. This sequel to the 2018 hit game looks absolutely incredible, and I cannot wait to go on yet another journey with Kratos and his son Atreus, who’s definitely taller than last time. That’s about it! My expectations were certainly exceeded, and there’s a lot of games on this list that I can’t wait to play.

Hey there! I'm Aaron, 26 and from Germany. I mostly play games with a stronger emphasis on a good story, but occasionally can be found delving into a genre I'm not too accustomed to. Diversity and accessibility are important aspects in gaming for me as well, which are always important conversations to have for me personally.
