I am notoriously terrible at racing games. In fact, driving in video games, in general, is a recipe for disaster. Anyone who has played Saints Row 3 (or 4) with me can tell you that putting me behind a wheel is a bad idea. However, I love driving in games anyway. Thus, when I saw the new trailer for Voidspeed Outlaw, I was intrigued.

Inspired by racing games of the ’80s and ’90s, Voidspeed Outlaw is a Retro-Futuristic, Pseudo-3D Racing game developed by Cydonian Games. The new trailer shows off not only the fast-paced racing gameplay but also cutscenes for the game’s Story Mode. Check out the details of Voidspeed Outlaw that were provided in the press release.

Voidspeed Outlaw is a retro-futuristic racer set on Mars in the style of racing games from the late 80s and early 90s. Lovingly rendered in low def pseudo 3D.

Mars 21XX. Ever since you were a toddler you’ve always dreamt of being a racer in the system-wide Voidspeed Racing League. You saved your money, pieced together a junk ship, and raced in wasteland all-or-nothing outlaw leagues. You’ve been noticed by the street scene and have built a pretty competent racer, but the races are incredibly illegal and run by the Martian underground. You can take favors to climb the ranks, but all debts must be paid.

The path to the VRL is steep, full of corruption and death, but it’s all you’ve ever dreamt of. And you don’t accept defeat.”

It has a very F-Zero-esque vibe and will allow you to customize your speeder’s model, as well as upgrade it and tune it to your particular racing style. There will be a variety of race tracks set on Mars, Titan, Europa, and more, as well as several arcade modes in addition to the story mode. There’s no release date set yet, but Voidspeed Outlaw definitely has potential.
