Has anyone checked recently to see whether or not Hades has frozen over? I ask because it appears that Blizzard Entertainment seeks to ensure that the Steam Summer Sale isn’t the only noteworthy festival of discounted games this summer. As far as I can remember, this sale is the largest and longest-lived sale event Blizzard has ever orchestrated. Let me tell you about some of the highlights in case you’ve got your eye on anything Blizzard has to offer.

I say we kick things off with World of Warcraft, since that’s most likely Blizzard’s biggest moneymaker and has a fair amount of discounts associated with it. First and foremost, all three editions of World of Warcraft: Shadowlands are discounted by 25%. This brings the asking prices of the base expansion, Heroic Edition, and Epic Edition down to $29.99, $44.99, and $59.99 USD, respectively. In case you need a quick refresher as to which edition provides which goodies, allow me to assist with that.

The base edition is only enough to get you access to the newest expansion’s content and the free, community-approved “Wandering Ancient” mount that Blizzard started giving out to everyone who owns Shadowlands a few months back. The Heroic Edition contains those two things in addition to a level 50 character boost, the Ensorcelled Everwyrm epic flying mount, and access to a quest line to unlock a new set of transmogrification gear. Finally, the Epic Edition features all of that, plus cosmetic weapon and Hearthstone effects, a new pet, and thirty days’ worth of game time.

Several game services intended for use within World of Warcraft are also decently discounted. Namely, level 50 character boosts, character realm transfers, and character race and faction changes are all discounted by at least 30%. Shadowlands-level character boosts can be purchased for $40 USD apiece. Race changes and realm transfers are now $17.50 USD each until the sale ends, and faction changes are going for $21 USD a pop. The discount to character boosts is the primary reason I joked earlier about Hades freezing over. I never dreamed Blizzard would even temporarily reduce their price.

Unfortunately, there are no discounts available on things like WoW Tokens, game time, or subscriptions. Additionally, there aren’t any reductions in the price of The Burning Crusade Classic’s Deluxe Edition. Speaking of subscriptions though, several mounts that were previously only available when you purchased a six-month subscription are now available in the in-game shop. Many of them have had their asking prices halved for the duration of Blizzard’s summer sale to boot.

Everything related to World of Warcraft: Shadowlands which has received a discount basically constitutes the major selling points of Blizzard’s summer sale this year. There are some solid deals on other games, though, so I’d like to quickly run through those. Three titles in the Call of Duty franchise have been discounted by between 40% and 67%. Black Ops Cold War’s asking price has been reduced to $35.99 USD, while Modern Warfare and Black Ops 4 are down to $29.99 and $19.79, respectively.

Furthermore, StarCraft Remastered will set you back $7.49, or $14.95 if you want the bundle containing the base game and the version designed and animated by Carbot Animations. Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time has been discounted by 25%, reducing its price tag to $29.99. There are no in-game deals within either Hearthstone or Heroes of the Storm. I think that just about wraps things up, folks! On a final note, Blizzard Entertainment’s 2021 Summer Sale will be active through Sunday, July 11th, 2021. If you want to grab anything, you’d best act swiftly!

David Sanders is an all-around complete and total nerd - the cool kind of nerd, don't worry. He greatly enjoys many different varieties of games, particularly several RPGs and turn-based strategy titles (especially Sid Meier's Civilization with a healthy amount of mods). When he's not helping to build or plan computers for friends, he can usually be found gaming on his personal machine or listening to an audiobook to unwind.
