Thanks to a shortage in a very particular semiconductor, consoles are hard to come by these days. In fact, it’s nearly impossible to find a PS5 or Xbox Series X right now. The Nintendo Switch (while older) is still also somewhat difficult to find. In particular, new consoles at Nintendo have been on hold because of shortages in parts. It looks like those parts are now secured by the company and we might see production ramp back up again. Could Nintendo Switch consoles be easier to find in the coming months? The current answer is, possibly.

That said, don’t assume you can just find a Switch right away. In a VGC article, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa says the parts are secured and production can begin once more. Although he adds, shortages are still expected as the company and others like it continue to return to pre-pandemic levels of production. Everything that COVID-19 impacted was bound to hit the gaming world in a delay. It’s frustrating to not be able to find the things we want as gamers, but these companies essentially had to delay their efforts by months in the wake of the pandemic.

It’s interesting to see Nintendo announcing new console productions despite rumors of a Switch Pro going unconfirmed. I’m hoping we get news on that sooner than later. Most of us want to get our hands on a new, more powerful Switch. The Switch lite was a great addition, but it’s time to get something that will show off the strength of future titles like Breath of the Wild 2. Have you had trouble finding a Switch lately?
