Hey kids, do you want to ride down a mountain on your face as your flesh is torn away two or three layers at a time? Well, you are mentally ill and in deep need of some help to solve your problems. However, you may have been looking at a game that is tagged as a “spiritual successor” to a game that only came out four-five years ago. Yes, the annoying human falling down a mountain (with style) ’em up, Riders Republic was announced last year to… rapturous silence, only broken when a cricket coughed and everyone ran out the room in terror.

Ubisoft’s fresh cadaver finder and MMO was announced last year at the Ubisoft Forward in September with a trailer that made me hate every single human being at once. It was a lesson in how not to close a show that featured a game when you could play as an old woman with a gun (I love Ethel). An annoyingly colorful faux-anarchic hellscape of people who think calling themselves “random” is a personality. I wonder why I wasn’t jumping for joy at its announcement. With the reveal came the solid release date of February 25th, 2021.

Well, a month out the game’s website now has a statement: “In September, we gave you a first look at our massive multiplayer playground in Riders Republic. We promised an action-packed outdoor sports park, filled with all-out mass races with more than 50 fellow riders on next-gen consoles, a variety of diverse activities and insane stunts. We can’t wait to have you traverse our vibrant world and live out your own rider’s fantasy.” However, the statement would go on to say, “Today, we want to let you know that we have made the decision to move our release to later this year. This additional time will allow our passionate team to deliver the best fun[-]fuelled experience to our players.”

What will this later in the year date be? We don’t know. Several storefronts including the Epic Games Store, have updated their stores to say “December 31st,” the industry standard placeholder date. While the statement is brief, it doesn’t address the elephant in the room, why? In recent times (the last year or so), delays are pinned on the pandemic. However, there is no word on why a month out from release the game was pushed back with such a vague time-frame. Of course, some would argue that it is the better option than what Cyberpunk 2077 did, setting hard deadlines every time.
