It almost feels like it goes without saying, but every time I’ve said it before, every single human seems to be surprised. “You don’t like Harry Potter?” they say, with the amateur dramatics of an old person in a comedy with trauma so grand they fall through a gimmicked table. I’ve had to say it too much. I don’t like the trite magic of the universe, and I find no joy or anything special about the lackluster tripe that is Joanne (made up middle initial) Rowling’s work, which is meant to be shocking to people. I don’t like her and I never have. I was ahead of all of you there. I don’t like her books, and I don’t like the needless nature to hold her aloft as a “rags to riches” story.

With that said, for years now, many people have been clamoring for the highly rumored open-world Harry Potter RPG that had been doing the rounds. That was until Joanne astro-turfed her entire career with those who would fall under a word she’d use as a slur “Woke.” I won’t go into her more recent history with horrid comments against people. Warner Bros have asserted and tried to make clear people know about that and know she’s not involved anyway. If you don’t already know, what is blissful ignorance like? I’ve forgotten it completely.

Nevertheless, last year the game was finally announced, clear as day to… a sound. It wasn’t cheering, it wasn’t applause, and it wasn’t entirely derision either. It was a rather a cacophony of sighs, anger, a touch of happiness, and whatever the sound of pure hatred is. I think that is how you make an evil Powerpuff Girl, just with a touch of chemical X. Ok, joking aside, the game was expected to be releasing some time this year. Now it seems there is a hiccup in the plan.

In the tweet revealing the game’s current trajectory, Avalanche Studios announced: “We would like to thank fans from around the world on the tremendous reaction to the announcement of Hogwarts Legacy from our Portkey Games Label.” Portkey Games is the publisher behind those Harry Potter Pokémon Go-like cheap cash-in things you’ve seen adverts for. They went on to say, “Creating the best possible experience for all of the Wizarding World and gaming fans is paramount to us[,] so we’re giving the game the time it needs. Hogwarts Legacy will be released in 2022.” Of course, since the announcement, those who are still excitedly waiting for the game have shown anger.

It seems that stupidity runs deep within the hallowed halls when students would magic away their turds. We’ve just seen what a rushed buggy game looks like, something that has dominated the gaming news for over a month since its release. This delay isn’t something you can just magic away with stupid comments and anger. At least, that doesn’t seem to work when you shout on Twitter about trans women. If you are still excited about the game, I understand why. However, a delay is only going to make it better for you. Shouting back “You shouldn’t have announced it then,” or “[W]hen you announced the game, the pandemic was already around[. N]o excuse for this,” isn’t going to change anything.

Hogwarts Legacy is set to take place in the elite boarding school for teenage magicians in the 19th century. So get ready to magic away them turds! Of course, players won’t take controller of the useless one with the scar, the ginger one, or the one that is annoying. Instead, you’ll create your own world of magic as you protect the wizarding world from being torn apart. The only advice I’ll give is, don’t touch wands. When I did that, a teacher walked in on me and two other blokes doing that, it just became weird.
