Some excited fans of the Microsoft Flight Simulator series wanted to wait to play the game until VR support went live. It’s understandable, with photorealistic visuals and a ton of detail, it’s a game built for VR. Or rather, VR feels built for it. Either way, the wait is finally over and we’ll see the arrival of VR capability soon. Better yet, the VR experience is going to be a free upgrade to the game, rather than an extra DLC or purchase for those looking to experience the game in this unique way.

Microsoft is no stranger to VR. They produce their own Mixed Reality devices that initially intended to rival that of Oculus and Valve. With that well out the window at this point, Microsoft Flight Simulator VR is coming to all capable devices. That includes the aforementioned competition as well as Microsoft-built devices. VR for this game isn’t just for the in-sky experience either. All pre-flight actions will be fully interactive in VR and make it feel about as close to flying a plane as you can from home. The update is scheduled to release sometime in late-December.

The Microsoft Flight Simulator updates keep on coming as well. The game’s developers continue to add new details and cities to the game. A place like Paris, for example, might have been in the game all along, but now you can actually see the streets with details that make it feel nearly indistinguishable from the real thing. The game is a triumph for technical gaming and flight training as well. It’s not for everyone, but for the gamers interested in this sort of experience, it doesn’t get any better than this.
