It is not fun talking about being quarantined, self-isolated, or having to social-distance, but it is important either way. We’ve covered it a lot the past couple of days and weeks, as WoW players got an XP boost, suggestions for shows to watch, GameStop aimed not to close storesWrestleMania moving behind closed doors, LOTUS EATER‘s supporting tour was canceled, and we discussed E3 being canceled this year. There has been a lot of strange and bad news around. Nevertheless, just last week while talking with Alexx (our editor-in-chief) I said publishers, developers, and online stores will use this time.

We saw this over the weekend when we couldn’t provide another article in-time for you to pick up the deal; as Square Enix offered Tomb Raider (2013) and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris for free. The other week Codemasters did a free weekend of F1 2019, as well as others doing similar promotions. This is ignoring deals going on over on the Epic Games Store and Twitch Prime; there are a large number of deals offering games as a free teaser with a discount for purchase, services with a library of games such as Xbox Game Pass or PS Plus, and outright free-to-keep offers.

This is where UPlay comes in, Ubisoft’s digital distribution service for all things Ubisoft. It’s also a massive pain in the “post rotunda,” as the Latins would say, when you’re playing on a console and are asked to log in all the time. Nonetheless, with your Uplay account, you can pick up the infuriatingly cute poetry simulator Child of Light; with semi-turn-based combat with RPG elements that have about as much sensibility of iambic pentameter as the game itself has. Beautiful art and well-designed characters are the standouts.

I’ve previously spoken about my displeasure with turn-based combat systems either feeling slow or unnecessarily holding the player back from making a decision. Child of Light‘s main USP (unique selling point) in terms of combat seems to be the bar at the bottom during combat telling you to wait to attack. Between this and rhyming couplets getting on my hairy nips already, I could see 12 hours of it becoming more than just provoking. I guess if you wanted to be annoyed about something other than rubbing yourself dry for the 12th time this morning after running out of lube, Child of Light would do.

Child of Light is only free for a limited time, with heavy discounts on DLC. You can pick up Child of Light for free until Saturday the 28th of March, and all the DLC currently available for a total of $5.44 (USD).
