When it comes to 2020 releases, I’m sure we can all name something that we’re really excited to play upon release. I know I could name several, and only one of them features John Wick. Some of the games releasing in 2020 for some aren’t even new releases; as many of this year’s controversial exclusives for the Epic Games store will be released on Steam. Speaking of exclusivity and the timed nature of many of the more recent games coming out, the Final Fantasy VII Remake seems to be one.

As part of a new box art shot, the exclusivity of the game has been revealed as one that is timed in the favor of Sony. The image, in particular, doesn’t seem surprising as the PS4 banner atop the box has never featured the staple phrase of this generation, “Only on Playstation.” Something we already knew in some part, as back in July Gamespot Europe and the social media manager for Xbox Dach (Xbox Germany) leaked an Xbox release of the game.

At the time of writing, Square Enix hasn’t given a press release or even a tweet on the new cover for the game. So there is no confirmation on the platforms this remake will be released on. We do know, however, that the original released on the Switch and Xbox One this year, and was previously released on Steam a while ago. Nevertheless, the series’ 8th installment did get a remaster and release on both the former and latter platforms. So the idea of a PC port isn’t out of the question in my opinion, though it will clearly be a long way off given the time frame we know of.

As I’ve recently said, with the advancements this remake is set to make, I am a little excited to play this installment in the series. I am probably the last human on earth to have not played even a minute of the game, and I’m slightly curious as to what all the fuss is about.
