News on Destiny 2 has been pretty dry lately. That is, until last night when Bungie made an announcement about changes to some guns which happen to be some of the games most useful gear. Most players were not pleased about these new changes.

This all started yesterday when Bungie put up its weekly blog post previewing some of the changes to come with the latest content update, Season of Opulence, which goes live on June 4th. These nerfs are to some of the most powerful exotic gear, and Bungie explained that the forthcoming endgame content has proved too difficult to design and balance around these powerful items.

The folks at Bungie’s blog wrote:
For Season of Opulence, several notable weapons are being adjusted. We want to ensure that encounters—raids and other endgame content, for example—remain a challenge. Some of these weapons have been overwhelming that challenge. Our first choice is to buff underused weapons, but if we continue to push every weapon up higher and higher, it will be impossible to maintain challenging experiences. This is not a full list of changes, but some of the most impactful.

The biggest change is being made to Whisper of the Worm, a high impact sniper rifle that will no longer endlessly generate ammo with continuous critical hits. Basically, this means that bullets will no longer appear from thin air and instead from the now more defined reserves.

Ace of Spades also received a notable nerf. The perk Memento Mori, that grants bonus damage when reloaded immediately after a precision kill, will now reset once the weapon is stowed.

Other nerfed weapons include the laser rifle Sleeper Stimulant and the shotgun Lord of the Wolves, that have armour whose perks restores energy for your super.

This makes players angry that some of their most favorite gear is being weakened. Especially when the mission to get the aforementioned weapon is so convoluted it makes the effort feel like a waste.

A lot of players suggest that rather than nerf beloved powerful weapons, Bungie should instead buff existing gear to balance it all out. Although it’s not as easy as it sounds, as Bungie has a past history of making overpowered weapons that break the game balance.

We have yet to see how Bungie responds to the reaction they’ve received from these changes. Hopefully, they will take all the fan responses to heart.
