The love for the Star Wars prequels truly took decades to develop. While some kids (like me) grew up into adults who fondly remembered the second Star Wars trilogy, most fans felt let down at first by Episodes I-III. Flash-forward to today, and there’s a lot of adoration for what those films provided the fandom, for better or worse.

It makes sense that while we continue to explore different time periods of the Star Wars universe that we’d return to the Clone Wars era, and we’re doing just that in the newest game announced by EA and Respawn from developer Bit Reactor. Here’s what we learned about the upcoming game, Star Wars Zero Company.

Leaning heavily into a gritty, unbridled look at the beginning of the Clone Wars, Star Wars Zero Company will give players control of Hawks, a former Republic officer. As the leader of Zero Company, you’ll command a squad of elite yet pieced-together professionals running cunning operations and taking on impossible odds to save the galaxy. Players will create a squad of new characters that can be customized as you begin your tactical endeavors in pursuit of new jobs. Of course, like a lot of Star Wars stories, it seems like your simple pursuit of work will lead you and your team into something greater than you ever expected.

In between missions, you’ll run a base of operations and work with informants to get intel to best your opponents ahead of battle. In a top-down, tactical gameplay format, you’ll see a lot of familiarity with an XCOM-style game in the screenshots and trailer. You have the opportunity to customize your combat class as well as your teams, including load-outs and archetypes that allow you to customize your approach to combat. Synergy game mechanics will encourage you to build a team that works well together, and there’s even mention in the press materials that Jedi can be recruited into your team.

While there’s still a ton we don’t know, we do know that the game will be released in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S
