Not For Broadcast is one of the most unique takes on a political satire-based game I’ve played in a long time. It has been out a while, but I’m always struck by how the developer, NotGames, took their concept and ran with it. Last week, details surfaced about the development of the game, as well as a final DLC on its way this year.

While we don’t have many details yet, the final DLC for Not for Broadcast will be called “Timeloop” and will be released later this year. The goal is for the DLC to wrap things up in a satisfying way. The developers even stated: “This will be the last content in the game universe, serving as a heartfelt farewell to the characters, and hopefully, a lovely conclusion for our players.”

Outside of this announcement, the developers also discussed the impact of global popularity on their experience developing Not for Broadcast. The dev team stated: “We are thrilled that our work has been well-received internationally, which was beyond our expectations!” The press release also follows with:

The team found that besides the European and American markets, Russian and Chinese players also highly embraced the game. To accommodate players, they translated the game into seven languages. Additionally, since the game features numerous endings, the team engaged with the community through live streams, discussing the impact of each ending.

They stressed that every ending is authentic to the game world, shaped by player choices. If forced to choose, the team might opt for a ‘reconciliation ending,’ representing a compromise between extreme left and right-wing parties. Finally, the in-game broadcaster will finally deliver real news

I love a good behind-the-scenes look at how developers approach their development. Since only one member of the dev team had gaming industry experience, they led with their narrative knowledge and it shows brilliantly. Aside from the “Timeloop” DLC, I’m excited to see what the team at NotGames does next.
