While there are still plenty of movies to come out in 2024, we have already been blessed with quite a few gems. While not all of these films would be everyone’s cup of tea, I guarantee that there will at least be one film on this list that will be absolutely wonderful for you. So without further ado, let us jump into the best films of the first quarter of 2024.

Argylle

The Bullet Train of Spy Films was dropped into our laps only a bit ago by the brilliant Matthew Vaughn. With a similar style to the Kingsman films, Argylle stars Bryce Dallas Howard as an author who is being hunted down by two spy agencies who believe that everything she writes comes true. From strange twists to fantastic stars, to iconic Sam Rockwell dancing, there is no shortage of fun to be had from this absolutely bonkers film.

Dune: Part Two

While the first Dune wasn’t the greatest solo film, Part Two managed to use the first one as a springboard to make for an epic sequel. Paul Atreides must navigate a world that he is still getting used to while grieving for his house and surviving the dangers that come from being viewed as a messiah to the Freman. With new stars like Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, and Christopher Walken joining the story, this is a film worth watching.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

One of my most anticipated films of this year, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire does a good job of balancing the dynamics between the new and old Ghostbusters. While the tone in this film is still a lot closer to Afterlife than the original two, it doesn’t feel wasted since the Spengler family is still at the core of the film. Frozen Empire is one that on paper seems too much to handle, but Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan do a wonderful job of continuing the world created by Dan Ackroyd, the late Harold Ramis, and the late Ivan Reitman.

Late Night with the Devil

Of all the films that I have enjoyed this year, Late Night with the Devil is certainly one of the strangest to explain. It is a horror movie that centers on found footage of a struggling late-night show from Halloween 1977. What begins as a normal broadcast quickly gets out of hand as the haunts that were meant to drive up ratings start to drive up the characters’ insanity. Starring David Dastmalchian, this is a great film to watch now and this upcoming Halloween when it comes to physical and digital later this year.

Love Lies Bleeding

While a romance film wouldn’t typically be my cup of tea, something about the first trailer made me keep an eye out for Loves Lies Bleeding. I am very glad that I did because this is by far one of the most interesting love stories that I have seen brought to theaters in quite some time. Katy M. O’Brian seemed to steal the screen in most of the scenes she was in which makes me hope that we will see a lot more of her in leading roles over the next few years.
